Anyone plays Star Wars:Galaxies ?

Well I have ordered my copy and will hopefully get my hands on it on Friday or Monday. So I wonder if anyone here plays it and is willing to chat a bit about it
Thank you for your time!

Re: Anyone plays Star Wars:Galaxies ?

Me neither but I'm a fanboy and intend to play it no matter what !!! =)
I live in Europe and had to order it all the way from USA and pay shipping and VAT and customs
+ I'll have to pay 18 % more monthly fee than gamers from USA and Canada...
Need I say more :P

I've got broadband and the game, and I love it!

I know other people have heard that it's a bad game, but that hasn't been the experience for me. It's awesome! Sweet graphics, sweet gameplay, and friendly players. I'm a Human Marksman on the Chilastra server. So far the lag hasn't been bad at all.. only minor slowdowns in the most populated areas of the cities. For SW fans like me, 15 bucks a month is acceptible because this game has LOADS and LOADS of content. Multiple planets, hundreds of mosters, tons of skills and abilities.. they really have put a lot of content in the game. I love it!

N1ghtw0lf: Yes, you get 30 days free.

Raiden1803: Who's charging 80 bucks for it!? It's supposed to be 50, just like any other new game. The $15 a month fee is for server upkeep. Keep in mind they're not even done with the game yet! They're already working on adding player vehicles and cities (not to mention fixing the problems).

edit: Yeah, that VAT stinks. What a ripoff.

What server are you on, and what race and starting profession did you pick?

Re: Anyone plays Star Wars:Galaxies ?

I originally had a Zabrak Brawler but I was getting killed way too often so I decided to go with a Human Marksman instead. I decided to go with carbines because of all of the special attacks and the fact that you can be fairly far away from your target while still getting a good shot off. Rifles fire too slow for my tastes.

I was being forced to return to town after every destroy mission to heal, so I trained in Novice Medic and can now make my own stimpacks. It's great for combat classes and since you can train to Master in 3 professions and pretty far in a fourth, I'd suggest training in Novice Medic so you too can make your own stims. They are lifesavers.

I'm on Chilastra in Coronet, Corellia. It's beautiful. I've been to Mos Eisley on Tatooine and it's pretty bland.. just endless deserts. Naboo looks pretty interesting; I might make a trip there soon.

Be careful when leaving your starting location, though. Some of the planets are designed for huge hunting groups (some groups are as much as 20 players!) and thus have incredibly strong monsters. Endor is one such planet. Do not go there by yourself or even with a small group... make sure you and your group members are really advanced. Also, watch out for Lok.. I hear there are Dark Jedi Masters there who do around 4000 damage per hit. Needless to say, before you venture to any of the remote planets, make sure you have a large group of friends for backup. If you want to find out more about the planets, try asking a newbie helper player. These players have the word "HELPER" above their heads. You can also type "/who newbiehelper" in the game to see a list of those players that are near you.

Re: Anyone plays Star Wars:Galaxies ?

Uhm, it's not complicated. It's basically a glorified first-person shooter. Some professions, like the Artisans, do require specific in-game knowledge, but overall it's really nothing difficult, especially if you've played any shooting game before.

Re: Anyone plays Star Wars:Galaxies ?

It's not difficult at all. This is my first ever MMORPG and I got it mechanics in less than a 2-3 hours. Off course there is much more to it than just that but:
"In time..."

Re: Anyone plays Star Wars:Galaxies ?

This game is like a first-person shooter? That makes me almost want to buy it. I thought this game would be like Everquest where you click on anenemy and you just sit there for 10 mins bored out of your mind while your character fights the enemy.

Re: Anyone plays Star Wars:Galaxies ?

No Star Wars Galaxy is like your typical MMORPG, Quest gain levels. adventure ect.

From what I have seen from this game I am very disapointed. Whats sad is it was released at a time I am very hungry for a new MMORPG

Everquest, DaoC, And Anarchy Online are just dying for me. And Asherons Call 2 is disapointing as well.

God.. Give me Lineage 2.. Give me Everquest 2.. god.. give me worlds of warcraft. I need my MMORPG fix

Re: Anyone plays Star Wars:Galaxies ?

What have you been so disappointed about? My experience has been excellent so far. The people are all very nice and going on hunting missions is a lot of fun.

Technically it's not a first-person shooter, but there is a first-person mode useful for navigating small spaces such as some buildings. Once you choose to attack a target the game will keep attacking for you, which is probably good due to the lag some people have. I can't say how similar it is to other MMORPG's since this is my first one but I imagine they're all quite similar. If you want a shooter MMORPG, check out PlanetSide.
