Re: mgs2 substance pc problem

the game doesnt work with an ati radeon 7000, because that card doesnt have hardware T&L.

Wait a sec you said the screen goes black. How do yo know then that your Movies are coming?
But you should download the patch that will enable you to play it on an Ati.

Re: mgs2 substance pc problem

yo, hello! read his post! he can hear the sound of the movie; and he already tried the ati patch; and I'm also (sadly) quite sure that there's no way you can run this game on an ati radeon 7000, seeing as I have one of those in my laptop, and the game does exactly the same on that one...

Re: mgs2 substance pc problem

Well thats my ponit if he can hear the sound maybe the movie is corrupt and only the sound is available.
It has happened to me on my ps2.I played a game and in the intro the screen went black and the sound was still coming.
But since he wrote the game also is gone black Substance is gone for u.

Re: mgs2 substance pc problem

The movie problem is actually unrelated to his video card. The movie playback is a known problem for ALL video cards. I had the same problem and I use a GeForce3. It's a codec issue and it's a pain in the a$$ to get around. Basically you have to make sure that any the game uses ONLY the windows media default codecs. If you have certain DirectShow filters may take priority by default and you'll have to disable them.

Re: mgs2 substance pc problem

perhaps, but believe me, it doesn't run on a radeon 7000; same goes for TNT2;

the game supports any Geforce or Radeon 8500 and up. With any other card it will most likely not work at all.

Shazaib > you might be lucky with a utility called 3d analyze which can force T&L on a card; but the chances it will work are highly unlikely.
a better solution would be to try to find the cheapest geforce card available.

Re: mgs2 substance pc problem

Oh I certainly believe that the Radeon 7000 doesn't officially support it... just pointing out that the particular error is actually not because of the Radeon incompatibility.

As for running it. From a graphic standpoint, (hypothetically, if the game were able to run) at a low resolution and with effects and textures at a low level a Radeon 7000 could definitely handle the game. A TNT2 could too I think. Of course the HW T&L problem keeps it from happening, so it's just a hypothetical.

Re: mgs2 substance pc problem

well, I dont mind getting that particular tool (3d analyze) and try to run it; I don't expect much from it since the only thing that tool did for me so far was getting the lightbikes part in the tron 2.0 demo (which requires hw t&l normally) to work on a matrox g400. ..but who knows...

Re: mgs2 substance pc problem

yup, it does, but it isnt listed specifically on the box; instead they listed the supported cards and later made a patch that added support for radeon 8500 and above.

Re: mgs2 substance pc problem

I'm trying

**UPDATE**

I just tried to force software TnL using a tool called 3d analyze, but it only results in an error. with AND without patch. If I don't use the tool I get the black screen, just like you.
So sadly I think it's safe to say that there is NO way that MGS2 will run on a Radeon 7000.
The only solution is a different videocard; or, if you're having more problems running recent games, get a ps2 instead; the ps2 version of substance is better, AND you'll be sure that you can get MGS3 as soon as it comes out.

Samor you sound like me

And Shahzaib, one thing more I need to tell you; MGS2 substance for PS2 also has Solid Snake Skateboarding.

And the MGS2 theme remix that runs in the background during that also rules...
