ps2 modem firewall
hi... i've been trying to connect my ps2 to my cable modem in order to play nba 2k3. however, since we've been using a router, i'm pretty sure the firewall is keeping me from establishing a connection. if anyone knows what i'm talking about (cuz i'm not sure if i understand) could you please give me a solution to fix this problem? thanks

Re: ps2 modem firewall
So your router has a built in firewall? Or is it a software one? Just wanna make sure. Hmmm if its hardware is there any way to allow acces to certain programs and such?

Re: ps2 modem firewall
Well the best thing to do IMO is trial and error. As long as you dont break anything and know how to 'undo' it you are good. You may want to go to www.thescreensavers.com and post on there messageboards about that. Some people there are very knowledgable about those sorts of things and may want to help. But first try some stuff and see if it works.

Re: ps2 modem firewall
AFAIK you can enter in the router menu by typing the ip address in explorer, maybe, in there, you coulg give access or modifie the firewall settings. I've never used a router with firewall so i'm not shure. Oh yes, you need a computer to do that ![]() ![]()

Re: ps2 modem firewall
i don't really know coze all routers have their specific menu but i would check for something like activating/deacrivatin firewall. I know is not much but is the best i can do.

Re: ps2 modem firewall
I'm not sure abt consoles, but for computers, the router will automatically and randomly assign a port to a computer with DHCP on. You might wanna refer to your router's manual for more assistance (or email the company)

1. Are you using the correct cable (regular Ethernet cable vs. crossover cable)? You could probably get away with unshielded CAT3 cable, but it won't break the bank to get a shielded CAT5 or better cable and see if that helps. 2a. If the PS2 is trying to use DHCP, is DHCP enabled in the router box? 2b. If the PS2 uses a fixed IP (whether you can set it or not), be sure the router doesn't use DHCP. Also be sure the IP range and netmask agree. If the router uses 192.168.100.* addresses but the PS2 is using 192.168.200.* or 10.10.10.* addresses, it won't work. If using a 192.168.* address, the usual netmask is 255.255.255.0 so be sure everything uses it. If using 10.*, it's 255.0.0.0 instead. It's ok if the netmask between the router and ISP is different (like 255.255.255.237), but on your side of the router everything needs to agree except in the unlikely event you use subnets at home. It's better, if possible, to change the PS2's IP and netmask to match what the existing network uses than force the rest of the network to adapt to it. 3. The router box probably has an option to make one system (normally set by IP) a DMZ. You could let the PS2 become your DMZ system. Of course the PS2 gets no firewall protection either. |
