Star Wars Galaxies

I'm surprised no one has posted about this yet. It launched on the 26th of June. I'm getting broadband in about two weeks and I can't wait to play this game. It looks really sweet. There are already tons of people, so finding a medic or entertainer shouldn't be difficult at all. The only bad things are the rarity of Jedi and the fact that as of right now, Bounty Hunters and the like aren't allowed to attack fellow players, only NPCs. There's a petition to get rid of that stupid idea and I fully support it, after all, they plaster Boba Fett everywhere and a lot of people think Bounty Hunting is cool (and challenging against humans). Has anyone else played it yet? I can't wait to get my copy!

Re: Star Wars Galaxies

Heard from many many many many many reviewers that it wasn't all that good...it was more like the sims than a fighting game and that they wouldn't pay to play it after the trial period...2 of my friends said the same

Really? Wow.

Well, the screenshots on LucasArts' site look absolutely stunning, but they're probably using the latest graphics card to take them. Nevertheless, the game still looks damn good to me.

Trial periods are weird. Even if you decide not to start paying for the monthy fee, you still layed down 50 bucks for the game, so it's not really a "trial" to me. Forcing the person to buy the game is a necessary evil but it just stuck me as strange (this will be my first MMORPG).

As for it being good.. it's not perfect by any means but from what I've read on the site and message boards it looks pretty damn fun. Games like Galaxies are always fixing themsleves and improving, which is both a gift and a curse; for example, people have been saying no Jedis have appeared yet because the developers didn't complete the Jedi code! The expansions sound really cool--land and space vehicles--and there should be lots of other stuff to do. Ultimately I'll buy and play it and then judge its quality for myself.

Re: Star Wars Galaxies

it's all about the lightsabre in the end. i wouldn't play because of the fee, but if i did give in and pay a monthly fee, i'd definetly play the best one. which, according to reviews and a friend of mine, doesnt rank very high.

Re: Star Wars Galaxies

Yeah, that's a problem. As far as I know only Jedi's can use lightsabers (there is a separate skill tree for iron or metal swords), which really sucks considering Jedi status is supposed to be ultra-rare and impossible to acheive. It's pretty expensive at 15 bucks a month, but for Star Wars fanatics like me it will hopefully prove to be an very enjoyable experience. I've heard about battlefields akin to Planetside where the Rebels and Imperials fight each other for control, and that sounds pretty cool.

Just curious.. exactly what did the reviews and your friends dislike? I know there were some problems at launch time but they seem to be resolved now.

Re: Star Wars Galaxies

i'm not sure what it was they didn't like. could have just been that they were expecting something different. he was a star wars fan, so even in that respect he could be a little biased, so for him to say it wasn't worth it...

Re: Star Wars Galaxies

thats usually the best way. everyone's likes and dislikes are different. however, when you do rate the game in your mind, make sure to put aside the fact that it is star wars. for all we know, that could be their whole intent. do a shoddy game and reel in the big fans of the movies.

Re: Star Wars Galaxies

Trust me, Galaxies is the most horrible star wars RTS game out their. its SO confusing, i had a hard time Just building crap and finding resources TO build stuff. Their battle system is quite horrible also imo. The graphics are bad, and it takes awhile for your fleet to shoot at the other ships. if you want a GOOD star wars RTS game, Galactic Battlegrounds and the Expansion Clone wars, is the best i have seen. graphics are alittle odd, but its still the best star wars rts,

Galaxies isn't an RTS, it's an MMORPG. You're thinking of Force Commander. Galaxies and Galactic Battlegrounds is a bit confusing, too.

Re: Star Wars Galaxies

might as well get jedi knight 2 for lightsabres then. if you're going to play Galaxies, you'd better like the whole game, cause theres nothing less fun than spending $15 a month.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the service fee for MMORPGs like Galaxies, not JK2 online

Re: Star Wars Galaxies

yea...i have a few points...

1)Galactic Battlegrounds Didn't Suck...It was just a rip-off of Age of Empires 2...If yo already have age of empires 2, don't get galactic battlegrounds...if you don't...It EXACTLY the same besides different units...It's based on the same engine and crap...controls and hotkeys are the same...so spend $30 on galactic battlegrounds ro $20 (maybe $10) on Age of Empires 2....your just spening an extra $10-$20 for star wars characters...

2)JK2 is all sabers online...go on the zone...and wham...every server is a saber fight...enjoy...guns lag like no other in that game...

3)force commander sucks ass

Re: Star Wars Galaxies

Glactic battle grounds IS quite fun, but my problem is that they gave the Buildings Too much health. Its been awhile but The last time i looked a fortress had atleast 7000 somethin hit points or somewhere around their. give or take. but it took WAY to long to destroy just one fortress, i used about 10 or so heavy mechs, 15 Medium mechs, and 10 Xwings. then just keept adding and adding troops by the 20's. it really ticked me off at times..
