well, when i say "get through" i mean getting through the necessary fights, not the optional, built for challenge, bosses. but even then, most attack spells do less damage than regular attack, unless the monster hasa weakness to the element or something.

Yeah what do you get out of if you fight Ozma? I never bothered with him and just focused on finishing the game. Even those Ultimate weapons in FF7.. GEEZ. those guys where hard. i didnt last too long fighting ruby weapon (that big thing in the desert.. not exactly sure) it wasnt the problem of my summons being strong enough (i didnt have knights of the round that long and was still in level 2) And my characters where either randomly kicked out of the battle (normaly the one i gave Knights of the round TO) or killed instantly.

Well defeating the Weapons in FFVII was sort of rewarding... I mean, you got a set of Master Materias

As for Ozma, Omega and Shinryu it's all on the challenge...

yeah, FF7's was the only one with a reward, Gold Chocobo and, as Kaiser said, the Master Materias. with Omega, you do get a little "certificate" for beating him

Same with Shinryu... I was quite dissapointed after battling him a dizillion times and it only gave me a petty scroll saying that I beated him...

maybe they do it that way so that nobody gets angry if they can't beat him since theres nothing really useful to gain out of it.

i'm not much for reading up on games getting ready to come out. it gets my hopes up and then crushes it like a sledge hammer.
but chances are, it'll be a class system similar to FFT (and similar to most other MMORPGS aswell)

I really was wondeirng how htey would setup FFXI. to me the graphics looked alittle cheezy at first glance. I need to read up more on FFXI, not that i would get it though. no ps2 for one.

Well, cheating is my favorite method and oops! Dobby must give himself a punishment he has let the secret out. See, Dobby has ironed his hands sir. Bad Dobby, Bad Dobby.

Seriously though, fighting beasties, completeing quests, finding items, and exploring are my favorite ways to level up in the FF games. Cheating is only used as a last resort or if I am really really stuck.

Same here... But I'd to cheat in FF8. The game was way too boring when I reached the end of the second CD, and then I used lots of cheats to finish it.

BTW, I also want to know the system of FFXI.
And I still have to try FFIX and FFX (when I get the chance, since I don't have a PS2).

ff8 is the only game i hacked before finishing. (that i care about) i even remember when: as soon as i reached cactuar island. at that point i was kind of bored with the game.

Me thinks that you will like FFIX, even if it's just for the game system... it's not one of the best FF, but IMO it's way better than FFVIII and for some reason it always fills me up with nostalgia... I like that game (yeah, even though it sucks

come now, it didn't suck. and some of the music was cool, although i don't remember what they sound like, i know i liked a few. the only major thing i didn't like were the limit breaks. everything else was good. (to me, ofcourse, the one who isn't really picky about rpgs)

Which one FFVIII or FFIX ? The first sucked really bad, no matter from where you look at the game. As for the second, I like it, even though it has some important flaws...

Well some of the characters lacked background development and the ending bosses were like normal enemies... other than that it was quite enjoyable (I have one more issue with the game but I can't name it because it'd be to spoil things for Boltzmann

)...
