Re: mgs2 vs splintercell

Yeah, the story of MGS2 si much thicker, but I feel so much more able to interect with the world in Splinter Cell. To put it simply, MGS2 feels more 'Arcade' and Splinter Cell feels more 'Sim'

Re: mgs2 vs splintercell

that be true.
MGS2 is actually kind of a laugh if you take a serious look at the stealth part, but it's implemented very well, gameplay-wise.

Splinter Cell (to me) is better than mgs 2, but I liked MGS 1 better than MGS2.

Re: mgs2 vs splintercell

To me, story is always #1 in any game. Although I like MGS2 better than SC overall, I think the story of SC is very solid. I guess it's just a certain style that alot of members here at NGEmu don't jive with. It's not very imaginative or far-fetched, but that's the whole point. It's very realistic and that's what's interesting about it. All of Tom Clancy's stories are like that. Another thing about SC, is that ALOT of the details and side stories are learned through reading data sticks on the computer, so if you miss those, you're missing out on alot of depth.

I guess Konami is addressing these issues well with MGS3. Interactivity with environment and sim style gameplay is what I have seen in MGS3. I hope it doesn't dissappoint in the story department.

And Samor, do you think the menu system and overall presentation of Splinter Cell was better?

Re: mgs2 vs splintercell

menu system? hm. not much difference, quality-wise.
overall presentation...both have a cool fmv intro, of course the cutscenes in MGS2 are kinda special. So I'd say in that case MGS2 has a slight lead over SC.

Re: mgs2 vs splintercell

Slight? Oo

The dialogues are both well written and spoken in MGS2. Yes, IMO better... much better than that of SC.

Plus I always prefer realtime cut scenes over pre rendered FMVs (save that for FFX) and SC's FMV was not all that impressive. At least to me.

Re: mgs2 vs splintercell

indeed, SC's fmv isnt really interesting (aside from the intro movie)
but we're talking overall presentation here; while indeed mgs2 does shine in the cutscenes, the overall graphical quality of sc is much better.
that's why I say, slight.

Re: mgs2 vs splintercell

MGS2 came almost 2 years (?) before SC!

Still I liked MGS2's camera system.

Re: mgs2 vs splintercell

To be honest I prefer MGS2 cause of its good storyline (have a movie just like Final fantasy) and normal gameplay .Not like SC gameplay is so hard that makes you stress enough to have stroke .

I think the camera system is cinematic but it makes the view of the gam e limited. I do a lot of switching from top down view to 1st person view, that's not great.

But I think the camera system will change on mgs3 with the jungle setting and all, maybe Mr. Kojima taking hints from SC? I did read on gamers.com that he says that SC is a good game.

Well, he is definetly taking hints from SC. Did you see snake (or whoever that is) hanging from a branch with one hand and shotting with the other. That was quite "Fisher-like"
