price tags...

...so, still not knowing what, or even IF I'm going to buy a console (afterall I already spent a considerable amount of money on pc upgrades and the question is, do I really 'need' a new console on top of that), I went to the stores to check out the prices of various consoles in the Netherlands....ok, xbox doesnt really interest me, so we count that one out for now... ps2 is of course the main attraction, but it has a 250 euros price tag for just the console+no game and 270 for the console + free game... I'm telling you, that's still a rather significant amount. then I saw the cube...2 packages...just the console for 200 euros and platinum cube with wind waker and bonus disc, ALSO for 200 euros.... is the cube that much worse that it's so much cheaper ..? I dont think so, personally.... Of course, its all very tempting... but maybe the best thing to do is enjoying splinter cell, mgs2 and dtm race driver (oh, and kof online) on my pc first and look again later... I do feel it's a bit ridiculous how I can wonder about getting a console yet I didnt even finish my recently purchased PC games yet...and there are several upcoming pc games on my "wanted" list already as well...

It's depend on you, what game you want to play, then you think the console. It's a BIG wrong if you choose the console, and then choosing the game after that

Samor...if price is an issue...then look at PS2...We know the console appears to be a little higher in price, but the investment is good for one reason...

Sony has no concerns about proprietary formats, and they have stakes in the DVD / CD industry...this translates to them being able to market games under their "Greatest Hits" line for far cheaper then a GC game. We are not sure about UK side, but here the G-hits line costs $19.99 with some retailers selling for less. Quality games for cheap

We own both consoles, and are pleased with both, but Nintendo is still growing their library and are still stubborn about bringing down the prices of their older games...hell the initail release Luigi's Mansion can still run you $30 USD

what are pc game prices over there, DW? because that's another thing; of course PC hardware is way more expensive than buying a console, but the games are 10 to 20 euros cheaper (at least here they are; an euro is comparable with a dollar nowadays)...
A new ps2 game is 60 or sometimes even 70 euros, whereas a new pc game tends to cost 40-50 euros. I havent checked GCN game prices. old PS2 titles are for sale at 20 euros....

Depending on the age of the PC game..for example new games can cost up to 50-60USD, and older games can be far cheaper...hmm...for example we picked up Septerra Core which was bundled with some other mech game for $10USD

same shpeal though...we recall the PC version of Grand Theft Auto being $10-15 cheaper the the PS2 version in its hayday

i just buy computer games. sure, i don't get to buy many RPGs (which is my favorite genre), but i seem to be dealing rather well with not having a nextgen console.

Hmm, 199 euros... just over $200... i'd have taken the bait if I were you.

actually I dont think so.
Did you buy a laptop and a month later a pc upgrade?
..not to mention a couple of new games... it's very tempting indeed to get a ps2 but in my case I find it a bit uncalled for. Besides that there are enough pc games coming out that will keep me (and my wallet) occupied.

I'm gonna pick up a Cube today or tomorrow for two reasons: One that it's cheaper than PS2 and comes with a game plus the difference I'm saving will leave me enough money to buy Capcom Vs. SNK 2(EB Games is selling it for only $20!). 2nd reason is that I want Soul Calibur 2 with Link in it (Bring on the flames ).

no flames needed; allthough I dont think he fits in personally I DO think he's the coolest extra character nonetheless...

His look doesn't fit in with Soul Calibur 2 but from the screenshots I've seen, his moves will definetly fit in.

I can't comment on that; personally I think you'd have to see that in motion...

don't forget, buy a new console will mean you'll be lured in to buy that many more games. at least this way, your options are limited to PCs

I think Samor, if you are having second thoughts about buying a console, then I would say that your sub concious mind is trying to reach your concious mind and tell it something. From what it you've said, it seems as if you've been listening to your subconcious mind and I would continue to do so if I were you. Anytime you have second thoughts about something (like buying a console) there is usually a very good reason for the second thoughts and it is best to listen to them.
Also, Galway no Sora, I agree with your staement 100%. Good point.
sincerely,
sx/amiga
