Unhappy Tekken 4 not all that fun..

So i finally got myself a ps2 Yeah i know, a bit late.
One of the main reasons i bought the ps2 was to get capcom vs snk 2
But 1 game is sure ass hell not enough, so i bought Tekken 4 for 60$. After playing it a few days, i got more and more bored with it.
Its just not much new from the other tekken games like nr. 3 and Tekken Tag. So i went back to the store and traded it to mgs2 and ffX for the same price. But i keep wondering if it was the right choice, just about every single ps2 site gives really high scores to Tekken 4.
Perhaps im missing the point or something, but does anybody really like tekken 4 that much ? Ive played Tekken 3 very much though...perhaps i have played to much Tekken in the past

that might be it; I never enjoyed gp3 and 4 as much as gp2, even though they're improved versions; it's probably because I played gp2 on a very regular basis for 2 1/2 years O_o

I donno. I had been playing Tekken4 ever since it was released and honestly I am still not "bored" with it. At the same I was bored as hell out of DOA2 HC.

But I think Virtua Fighter 4 is the best fighter on the PS2. If you don't mind the jaggies, you'll dig this game.

VF4...crap..another reason to still save up for a ps2. lol.

I loved DOA2 on the DC and VF3 is cool as well.

I'd dig up some more DC titles if I could find them; the only place they're cheap are on fairs; in the shops that still have 'em dc games are 60 euros here, which is just ridiculous :eyes:

Funny fact. I haven't played Soul Caliber on the DC even though it is right next to my CD case. Why? I am practising self control

I'll play it after 22nd. I saw some SC2 gameplay clips and honestly it looked fantastic. I am not referring to merely graphics.

as much as many people disagree with me, i actually prefer tekken 3 and tag over 4.
i don't know, 4 seems.....slower......and your attacks doesn't seem to have the impact of the other two. getting extra damage from stage edges is okay, but sometimes stops your juggles annoyingly...

I am yet to try Tekken Tag (and I may never try it) but IMHO Tekken4 is an improvement over Tekken3 in almost all aspects...

Strange, I like Tekken4 more than Tekken3, cause good graphics, and I don't feel any slow movement in Tekken4, it's just more smoother than tekken3 and if you don't like Tekken fighting style try Bloody Roar 3, you might like it.

Tag over 4 any day, going back to one on one fighting is such a step backwards

Tekken 4 was inferior to tag. Not for the lack of tag mode, simply because that game didn't feel like it flwer properly at all. I was using the same old moves with Hwoarang, Bryan and Lee, but the game felt so pitiful for some reason, no matter how good it looks.

there's no argument about graphics, hands down to 4.
and i really like the tekken fighting style,... it was only with 4
that i started to have qualms about it.

imho, i guess lord kane along with some of my friends recognized that too, the same attacks really felt....weak, muted, and flawed compared to 3 and tag...can't find more suitable words to describe it...

about the speed. yes, 4 IS smoother but imho, when playing 4 immediately after playing 3 or tag, i felt like max payne in slo-mo mode...and i was playing the supposedly faster jap version...it isn't about slowdowns, the game is just really slow.

on other things, i really don't like stage corners, since it sometimes stops an otherwise longer and more damaging juggle combo. and even if 4 included a tag mode, i would still prefer ttt over 4. i liked the music more in 3 (original one, not the arranged). i personally liked the designs of paul and xiaoyu in 4, but i still prefer the old look of yoshimitsu and jin(especially with the simple black pants with fire design...he looks like a rapper on 4). and what were the developers thinking with heihachi's sumo get-up?

the US/UK versions of T4 are 10% slower than the Jappo version, which is a serious handicap :/

oh, and for soundtrack, check Tekken 2

We enjoyed Tekken 4 simply because it is part of the Tekken series that we have always enjoyed. However there simply was not enough added play mechanics or replay incentives. The returning characters sported few new moves...and the new cast...well..one is a Mokujin wannabe (Combot?) that simply utilized various character moves, Fox..the boxer..plays a little like Bruce but with some dodges and sways, The hot chick plays exactly like Eddie and simply appears to be there for poly goodness...Marduk appears to be the only new character with a change of play mechanics, but still does not stray to far from a Jack 2 / King mix...It was a great rental to get through the storyline and the Tekken Force...but not enough to warrant a purchase...particularly since the meatier Tag costs $20 USD

Tekken 4 is a slow-motion game, and i hate slow-motion games. I really wonder why Namco made the game to be so damn slow  (i played the Japanese version, the normal speed one)

IMO, Tekken Tag owns T4. Most of the hardcore Tekkeners agree with this, especially those who play competitive tekken game in arcade.

Just wait till August. I am pretty sure that Soul Caliber II will get perfect scores just like Soul Caliber.

Ah, sorry, yes you are pretty much right (that said I would love multi-tier stages, DoA 2/3 style in SC)

Tekken 4 was okay, but if you got Tekken Tag, you are not missing much. It was a good thing you exchanged it for MGS2 and FFX.
