PS2's first wave problems..

anyone rember the trouble sony was having with PS2's on their first waves that came out? well i never had the money to fix mine. they said it was like an extra 100$ or something? how did you guys fix yours if you had the same problem? i never bought a new one, keept thinking if i gave it a year or so, it would just break again.

I hear that some of the new games (Xenosaga, Star Ocean) on dual layer DVDs can't be picked up properly on the older systems and don't work. I'm so glad I don't have an old PS2, I already have WAY too much trouble with the new ones as it is...So in that regard, if your system is THAT old, you might as well get a new one anyway.

Yeah, I had two controllers die on me within thirty days of the initial system purchase. I'm apparently the only person in the world with this much bad luck.

My first controller just stopped working about 11 days after I got the system. After I returned it and got another system, my joystick squeaked whenever I moved it right or down.

heh...you may have been lucky as well Raiden1803....Initial Xbox releases chewed up game disks....in Japan retailers stopped selling them till M$ fixed the problem...heh

Ryos...perhaps you should go to a different store....we have heard rumors of stores who never returned recalled units..and are still trying to pawn them off for profit....we can't really say for sure, but we cannot still fathom that you are running into so much poor luck....the same seemed to hold true to sxamiga's experience

THAT old? got a version number which classifies a system as old?

Oh, it must be your fault then. jk
My cousin has some problems with his controllers too, he has to press them buttons real hard for the controller to notice him.

I'd really like to try out Xenosaga when I get the chance to, but my machine is version SCPH-30001. Am I doomed I wonder?

I don't believe Sony's pinpointed a specific version number that's the cutoff between recognizing games correctly or not. In fact, I don't think SONY has recognized it as a legitimate problem yet...
