Just HOW popular was FF2?
Well? Anyone know how popular FF2 was on the NES back in the day? I'm only asking because I just listened to the PSFs, and they sound alot more inline with square's SNES FFs (ie good) This is slightly Ironic because I tried playing FF2 on emulation and the music was the thing hat irked me, it always seemed way too high-piched/chirpy for me. The PSX FF2 PSFs however were wonderful

FFChronicles is a port of the Wonderswan (not the NES) version with added FMV. The wonderswan version was pretty much a complete remake using hte best quality teh handheld could muster

Well, the MUSIC was great. Unfortunately, I never could stand the game itself (and I suspect a lot of other people couldn't either). However, the Wonderswan port could have made the then unbearable game engine much less annoying.

I beat FFII and FFIII on the nes about a month ago. The wonderswan versions are pretty lame IMHO. But the PS versions are very, very good. Although I still prefer to play the originals on the NES.

Kane, I THINK you mean Origins don't you? IIRC Chronicles was ports of FFIV and FFV (sold seperately) Anyway, I just wanted to know how popular it was in Japan when it was released for the famicom

Nevertheless, it was a breakthrough in console RPG's and it was the basis around which alot of the later and greater titles were based so I gotta give it props for that.

FF1 was really sucky. But at that time it was the only RPG game I had. FF2 is great, but too easy, short and the story could be better.

how bout Final Fantasy Origins....The remakes of FF1 and 2 are way better than the NES version and even the WSC version and I actually liked FF1 even if it had a bad story, but remember if it wasn't for FF1 there would be no FF today

We give credit where credit is due...of course FF1 / FF2 are simplistic..they were the genre breakers....FF1 saved Square from going defunct in the 1980's..It was the software company's last ditch effort (thus the name Final Fantasy)...FF2 began the whole "get to know the character" experience...decent story too.. Bottom line is all you new skewlers who were weened on FF7 may not appreciate such RPG beginnings...we however enjoyed FF1 & 2...er..FF3 is another story though.... |

Sure FFI was pretty simplistic but back then they didn't have much to work with. If you think FFI was simple, try the original Dragon Quest. Couldn't be simpler, well Super Mario Brothers was simpler... But people still love it regardless.

I agree w/Dark Watcher. With out FF1 there would be no FF series at all. I also found FF 1 to be quite enjoyable on NES. Once I started playing it I couldn't stop. I played it straight through and I beat as well. I think it is quite a nice game . If those of you who are calling it "lame or sucky" are doing so in comparison to today's games, that is not fair. It was an 8bit game released in the early 1990s so of course it can't hold a candle to today's great efforts. But for it's day, I feel it was quite something. I am eagerly looking forward to FF Origins and will pick it up as soon as it is out here in the US. sincerely, sx/amiga |

Well I think everyone is being too severe... it was the first FF ever, you can't expect to be as complex as today FFs... besides I agree with what was said, without them there wouldn't be a FF saga as the one there is now ![]() Another thing, you have to love the origin of great sagas, mind you a few years ago I replayed the Phantasy Star Saga after playing PSO and I enjoyed much more than the first time I played them (which BTW is a lot ) you have to love the nostalgic feeling it gives...

So I'm not alone in admitting my closet enjoyment of FF1? I loved everythng about it, music/graphics... everything. it's one of my alltime favorites.
