Question about performance in Unreal 2
Well questiuon for you guys!
What fps do you get playing this game and with which settings ??? I'm really frustrated... I have P4 2.26 @ 2.42 512 DDR RAM Radeon 9700 @ 297/330 Win XP SP1 (fresh install) DX 9.0 CAT 3.0a I should be eating everything standing in my way but, I really can't play this game at higher fps than 40-50. And then with all settings at low and 0x AA and 0x AF res 1024x768 I really don't get it Are ATi cards bad with Unreal engine or what ? Now I'm on Hell 1280x1024 0x AA + 8xAF everything at high and I get like 15-18 fps!!!! It is really sick. If I lower resolution and sett 0xAF I wont get higher than 30 fps. I really don't know what is the problem Could you guys please post your specs and settings and fps you are getting ?!? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Most likely a rushed product and less optimized. Best wait for a patch or.. 50.

I really don't get it. Maybe it performs differently for an Ati card. I'm getting the game today, I'm using a GF4 4600. I'll post my performance stuff tonight. |

The Unreal website has the specs listed, just go to the Unreal2.com website, and after everythings done doing it's thing, navigate to game info, and it click on the box to the right that says Specs (it's not immediately obvious it's there just move your cursor over that way and you'll find it. Now as for how much faith I put in those...well I wouldn't count on running this game decently on anything less than a 1ghz rofl

Standards. Bsaically they are trying to create a standard by which most gaming PC's have to measure upto, which kinda sucks for those of us who dont have the money to beef our systems up like that. Mine as you can see below is pretty beefy, but sadly enough finding more and more lately it ain't beefy enough, and im almost afriad it wont be for Unreal 2 unless his problem is related to the ATI card.

If your ATI Radeon 9700 can't play this game at a fast speed, the company that makes the Unreal games needs to hire some other programmers. There's no reason in the world that you can't get really high FPS when the ATI Radeon 9700 has a 19.8 gig bandwidth!

I dont think it's so much an issue with the card itself, may be the drivers. It's hard to pinpoint really, the games just been released so who knows what problems they didn't nail before release.
Also no offense, but to blame it souly on the programmers is just wrontg, if you want to blame it on someone, blame it on the companies that force those programmers to put the game out by a certain date, or risk having their liscense for the game dropped.

Try http://www.omegadrivers.com This guy makes his own version of ATI drivers that fix a lot of stuff. You could also PM Hybrid23; he seems to have this game working fine on his Radeon 9700.

If you're having issues with Unreal II, be sure to check out the Official Unreal II Support Page.

Here are my numbers.
My rig: Athlon XP 2100+ (1.7ghz), 512 DDR Ram, Geforce 4 Ti4600. All graphics and details set to MAX. FPS #: average 70-80 fps Solution: Go to the Unreal2.ini file change the "CacheSizeMegs" from 8 to higher amount (I set mine to 32). If this does not work, then the problem my reside in the ATI card (drive issue probably). |
