Red face Another Beach Volleyball?

And man! it looks crap!

May be because it is an early build. The gameplay seems interesting AFA we know now.

DOA Beach Volleyball for XBOX, Beach Spikers for GC then something was necessary on the PS2.

Yeah, if you can't get at least a decent whack out of it, it's not worth playing.

Ever heard the term graphics don't make the game. But they help in many cases.

I agree! Volleyball game feels incomplete if it doesn't have hot-looking digitized chicks with big jugs and lushes round apples.

Yeah, but without near-naked girls it's not a beach volleyball game

Well DOA Beach Volleyball had the fight won before it started... too many admirers of the "jelly-things" since the first DOA

That depends on you. You get to customize them.

For those who are TOO lazy to visit IGN. Here is what they've got to say:

Quote:
January 27, 2003 - Hot on the sandals of Tecmo's overnight sensation DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball, Acclaim Studios Cheltenham has announced its own brand of sandy oceanic justice with the aptly named Beach Volleyball. Centered on the ritual of Spring Break and its wild denizens, Beach Volleyball will focus on wild college students and their wacky experimental hormones as they take to the net and play "smack it" for hours on end.

Presented to the gaming press in short 90-second video form at Acclaim's press event in Tampa, Florida late last week, Beach Volleyball appears to be taking a different road than the Xbox's signature skin fest from Tecmo. Offering fourteen selectable characters from both sexes, the action-based volleyballer uses trajectory meters to illustrate the direction that the ball is traveling when hit. And though we didn't have a chance to play it ourselves, the game appears to be much faster in comparison to the DOA girls and seems to hint at a healthier list of maneuvers and options for each character. Should you not like the way those characters look they are completely customizable. Skin color, hairstyle, and clothing accessories can be tweaked, removed, or added to help create the perfect beach bunny or star athlete of your choice. And while that character's attributes and statistics will remain the same regardless of their alterations, no two players should ever appear the same once you've mastered the dress-up dynamic.

And while we're on the subject of dynamics, Beach Volleyball will be using two specific hitches to add some replay bits to an otherwise straightforward sport. The first of which is known as the "Super Spike" system. Rewarding gamers for excellent plays, pulling on an ace, or other awesome performance-based play, the SS system is one way to beef up characters on a personal level -- be it via special moves, speed bonuses, or ever a secret or two. Of course, the real method to unlock the goodies is by playing through "Spring Break Mode". It is here that you can truly experience the Spring Break phenomenon while meeting people, uncovering features, and becoming the coolest person on the beach.

Additional modes like arcade, exhibition, tournament, and mini-game are but a few of the other options available at the player's disposal. With twelve distinct resort locations serving as the backdrop for your exploits, famous locales like Venice Beach Stadium, Flamingo Pier, Emerald Marina, and Silver Sands Beach will be yours to explore. There's even some inside rumbling that the game will garner a sponsorship from an extremely famous record pusher, but the ink has yet to be dried on that particular deal, so mum's the word.

Scheduled for a summer release exclusively for PlayStation 2, Beach Volleyball could certainly turn some heads when it arrives on our shores later this year. With plenty of gameplay modes, planned four-player support (including an option for two-on-two human interaction), and a long list of reportedly "mature" mini-games, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for this one. Check back for more, soon.

Mature mini games?
