• While 128-bit console software dollars were up 56%, the strength was offset
however by 96% decline in N64 software and 58% decline in PSOne software, so
that overall software sales for the holiday quarter grew 11% over last year. New
128-bit console hardware sales increased 35% year over year for the month of
December. Overall hardware sales were up 19% year over year.

• In terms of market share, Electronic Arts was the largest gainer picking up 4.6% over
last December, followed by Ubi Soft’s 3.8% gain and Infogrames’ 3.7%. The
biggest share loser was Nintendo, dropping 3.7% followed by Microsoft and
Activision, both down 2.1%.

• Electronic Arts’ (ERTS, $47.95, Outperform, TP $87.50) U.S. video game sales for
the quarter were up 27% versus last year. Strength in December came from
continued strong sales of Madden NFL 2003, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
and NBA Live 2003. We expect management to report results on January 30th. We
expect a solid set of results from EA despite the weakness in overall software sales
because of their focus on PS2 and the strength of its affiliate label business.

• Activision’s (ATVI, $14.09, Outperform, TP $22) U.S. sales declined 20% year over
year for the quarter, with the weakness driven primarily by the Tony Hawk franchise,
which was down 30% year over year. The company recently preannounced results
for the quarter, guiding to a revenue decline of 36%. The company will report
earnings on Wednesday, January 22nd at 4:30ET. The dial in number is 952-556-
2828.

• THQ’s (THQI, $11.15, Outperform, TP $16.50) U.S. sales increased 20% year over
year in the quarter driven by sales of WWE Shut Your Mouth, Red Faction II and
*****ebob: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, and continued strong sales of its
portfolio of games, including Sonic Advance on the GBA. The company recently
preannounced results to revenue growth in the quarter of 10% year over year.

• In the second month of Take-Two’s (TTWO, $21.70, Outperform, TP $34) January
quarter, sales are up approximately 38% on the strength of its PS2 Greatest Hits
products and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, which has sold nearly 4.5 million units in
the U.S. in its first three months. Midway’s (MWY, $4.16, Underperform, TP $3)
U.S. sales in the quarter were up 79% year over year, with strength coming from the
release of Mortal Kombat.

• While 2002 ended on somewhat of a low note, we continue to believe that software
sales in 2003 will grow at 20-25% as 128-bit software sales are free to grow without
the negative drag of 32/64-bit sales that impacted this past holiday season.

Apparently last I heard the Canadians buy 2 Xboxs for every GameCube. Lethbridge doesn't seem to be so bad though. Most of my friends either have PS2s or GameCubes. I only know one guy who has an Xbox, and he's a prize idiot.

SkyeHack, he was an idiot before he bought an Xbox. He was an idiot before I even knew him. Most people know him as an idiot. I have never even heard of anyone who thinks he's smart.

I merely said I blamed the Canadians, without any further comment. How the hell does that turn into flaming?

Christ people, go back to using your pitchforks on something useful.

uhm,,...and you think i took your statement seriously? I didnt even say that you were flaming us....(unless you were refering to Kaiser)

PS: but that "Christ people, go back to using your pitchforks on something useful." might cause trouble, you shouldn't have typed that down...

I was referring to these two lines.

You might not have been serious, but Kaiser was. I just get irritated when people just assume that I hate everything that's not Nintendo.

Oh, it's not your fault, it isn't mine neither... Anyway for the tone of your posts seems like I've upset someone, funny since I can't read his posts
Anyway, I'm avoiding flames so... it'll be too stupid from my part to engage myself on a fight without knowing it... well actually it wouldn't be the first time...

Should I have the money to buy a console I'd buy a PS2 mainly for some good RPGs and for VF4... however since the only console with PD (Panzer Dragoon) is the XBOX... well, I'd consider that option too...

So XBOX is finally overtaking GCN? One of the wonders of the planet. Nintendo must do something about their advertisement policy.

I mean, lok, PS2 is outselling even the GBA! I say the blame goes to Nintendo.

As it was said, it's just because Nintendo's greatest titles haven't arrived yet (on EU)...
