Valkyrie Profile

I am currently playing Valkyrie Profile on epsxe, I havent played a really good RPG since Xenogears (FF8, FF9, and FFX were let downs). This seems like it could be really cool, anyone else playing / played it? Opinions?

If you are looking for solid challenging gameplay, and an excellent story, look no further. Valkyrie Profile is simply awesome in both regards.

However, the ending is quite simply pathetic. Being the only flaw in the game though, I can live with that. It's seriously worth playing anyways.

No. Xenogears had a very good ending, it just wasn't very....

Valkyrie Profile's ending is just dissapointing at best. But by that point you already know pretty much everything that you could know from the stuff that had happened previously. I seriously don't know how it could have been improved.

I guess they could have stuck an FMV in there and called it quits... but pretty much anything would have been better than the ending they gave it.

Overall though, I have no complaints. It had accumulated enough good points by the ending for me to accept it.

One thing that I hated about VP, is that u have a certain number of turns to play. Entering cities or dungeons takes 1 to 5 turns. In the normal dificulty u have less than 200 turns, so u don't have the freedom other RPGs have. I really hated VP 'cause of that.

BTW, I really liked Xenogears ending. In my opinion, the entire cd 2 is the ending.

I found it pretty average. No great story or characters. At least the finishing moves looked good.

Can you explain more about the turns system and how i use it to enter a city? please?

Basically, you have a limited number of "turns" before armageddon, and you have to recruit your soldiers before that time limit runs out.

Going into cities and such will use up your turns, but I found that I had plenty of turns to spare at the end of the game anyway.

It sounds interesting. Btw, can it happen that you have spend like 50 hours and you are so weak when the armageddon comes and you have to restart your game?

I think so... I have never actually tried that. You also have to keep in good favor with the gods though. If you are too weak, they will simply oust you and have you replaced. I think you would get Game Over long before then. And the regular game isn't very easy either, so I doubt it would be possible actually.

But doesn't that turn thing make you feel... under pressure the whole game? And, is the music good, or just average?

I found that there were some really good tracks in Valkyrie Profile. I don't know the names, and I can't remember them off hand, but I know that the music did leave a very good impression on me.

And the turn thing, it does put you under pressure, but not really in a bad way, since the whole game is basically free exploration.
