New Mario News!!!

GamingCubed has posted a blurb with quotes from Shigeru Miyamoto.

Quote:
New Pikmin and Mario Games
Posted on "10/12/2002"

Shigeru Miyamoto has recently commented on the development of two new games from Nintendo... Pikmin 2 and the mysterious Mario 128. Mario 128 was originaly a demo shown at Spaceworld to showcase the GameCube's power - it featured 128 Marios scurring about and falling on top of each other atop a big, twsity Monpopoly board. Naturally.

Well, not many details are known about either of the titles thus far, but the line from Shigsy is:

"When you start thinking that you have to raise the number of consoles (in homes), you realize that having a lot of brand names is important. ...But I still want to make new things."

"We're developing Pikmin 2 and the Mario 128 that we showed to everyone at a press announcement earlier."

"I believe that with this game you'll be able to feel the "newness" that was missing from Mario Sunshine."

Hey! That's just what we need! Where Mario Sunshine was basically an update of Mario 64, Mario 128 will be really original - bring it on Nintendo!

- Chris

Heh. I posted this in the console war thread, but I think it does deserve its own thread.

Personally, I am really excited about Pikmin 2. Pikmin 1 kicked butt, but it can get better.

I am still playing and enjoying Mario Sunshine though. I want to see more Pikmin. Don't get me wrong, I am excited about Mario 128 too, but I am MORE excited about Pikmin 2.

I shoulda known you would beat me in posting this.

and Doh!! I should have included Pikmin in the thread title. I never had a chance to see Pikmin in action, but it must be good if you're more excited for its sequal than a new Mario

Heh. Occasionally I am sleeping or at school when big news hits. Such as the Square-Enix merger... I missed that one by a few hours. I do try to stay current in Nintendo news though.

Btw, did you know that that news story came from Japanese Playboy?

Its a good thing some people actually read the articles in that mag. Otherwise we might not have known for a while longer.

Heh. I don't really buy a lot of Playboy, but I have a large stack of Penthouse and Swank. I find that the articles are sometimes pretty amusing, so I read them. If they had an interview with Shiggy, you can bet your ass that I would read it first thing upon opening the plastic cover.

come on, super mario world was jsut an update of super mario bros 3 too and i dont hear anyone complaining ~_-
hundreds of games want to be as good as mario by using a similar concept, but if you ask me, mario sunshine is the only one who does that job properly.
i also hope pikmin 2 will be great.
i think the first pikmin was an awesome game, but i read its REALLY (i mean REALLY!!!) short and thats why i didnt bother getting it. if they correct that mistake in part 2 ill get it on the day it comes out!

Pikmin 2- I would be excited but I suck at RTS games (the only one I was ever good at was Warcraft II, but even then I could never beat another Human player), so I will no doubt, NOT be getting that one.

Mario 128- 128 Marios? So its going to be like "The One." You have to travel through the warp pipes, and stomp/push into lava/make time run out on all of your other selves, so you can become powerful enough to defeat Giga Koopa? ... Or um maybe it will just be like... Mario 8³-Bit? or.. It boggles the mind, really.

So they have are already making "sequels" for games they put out on the system, yet no new Mario Kart?

Nightwolf, Super Mario Sunshine had a water gun. I don't really see how that's all that different from SMB3 to SMW.

hm. dunno. btw, dont you think it's odd that everywhere in mario there are sewers but the guy always keeps his clothes clean?

actually it's kinda disturbing that such a weird game concept (a fat plumber travelling through fantasy worlds using sewer pipes rescuing a princess from a turtle-like dude with a heavy-metal outfit) has such a huge following.
