Sorry, question...

I'm really, REALLY sorry about this, but since I'm young and ignorant I'm new to emus. I can't find any faqs on them, and I have downloaded one- to find I don't know how to get games. Qs:
1) Is it free or not?
2) How do I get games for it?
3) I've heard of problems you get with windows2k with nemu64. I have win2k XP. Will it work?
Again, I'm REALLY sorry. I've read the rules and the f.a.q. but none of it refers to the emulators... Sorry, I'm just desperate.

It's completely free. The games... I don't know about the N64 ones, but the PSX ones... well, they sell them at the stores...
And don't feel sorry at all, many people here will feel glad to answer your questions. Enjoy!

none of the games are free, you have to get them from stores. you may only own backups of games (like N64 ROMS) if you have the original. please don't request games here ^^

what emus are you talking about anyway?
there are lots of them, each for a console.
anyway i'll try to answer them.
1) some of emus are free and some are not.
2) if your looking for n64 games, you can search/download google for roms. but i dont recommend it to you because its illegal (unless you own the original copy and used them as backup only), and please DONT ASK FOR ROMS, you might offend the admins.
3) sorry i dont really know, cause my operating system is win98.

As Tokimune said, what emus?

Anyway, for PSX's emus like ePSXe, PcSX, VGS, I used (and I'm using ) them either on W2k either on XP, w/out problems. Yes, for VGS to using on XP u must have a patch (like Aldo's from http://www.aldostools.com).

Thx, bye

As the guys said, choose an emu and ask specific question is their repected forums (I'm taking about the subforums here ) and u'll find many who r happy to help. If u have a good system and/or like to tweak things for the best performance, take epsxe (PS emu). If u just want to put the cd and play, then go VGS. In the N64 scene, PJ64 has made a really big jump in the last version so u should definitly try that. Anything else?

ARGH! I had to rerigister! It's me, Doctoroc.
Firstly, it's a Nemu64, second, I won't. Right then, I look for roms. But if it's illegal- I'm sure there's some technicality somewhere I can use to prove I didn't make these, I just wanted them for free and all-
Oh, there I go again. Sorry again.
To emu-creators: You buy the games from stores? How the heck did you lot avoid a lawsuit?!?! They'll sue the pants off you!

They use them for testing purposes only I guess.
And they don't condole that ppl who use their work to run backups a.k.a roms of games which they don't actually own.

There's more to it than that. You are entitled to a backup of a game that you own, but ONLY that particular copy of the game you own. downloading a ROM of any kind is illegal, even if you own a copy of the same game.

The emu authors started their emulators using the games that they, themseleves, already owned. They also studied the way the console(s) (which they also owned) executed intructions and they studied programming. This, in a "nutshell", is how emulators were developed. In the case of the emus that use "roms" (cartridge based consoles) the authors had to do an additional step. They had to "dump" the roms (cartridges) so that the developing emulators and the PCs on which these emus were running could work w/the games.
For the PSX emus you go out and buy the actual PSX CDs, the same is true for the Sega CD emus (if you can find any Sega CDs).
sincerely,
sx/amiga

Ebay is a good option for Sega CDs... though if you a gamer since old times (say... like me) you don't need Ebay... *gazes at his Sega CD titles* you already have all what you need...
