Not quite sure but I guess your PS2 should be modded to play DVD-Rs. I don't know if DVDRWs would work.

And as for DVD-audio , these are currently only playable in special dvd-audio players , as they aren't playable in dvd(video)players.

Would need a Mod to play anything other than DVD-video and proper PS2/PSX games.

Also the ps2 has some design flaws when it come to dvd video, eg it cannot playback dvd's which automatically play the movie when you insert the disk, or dvd's which do not have a menu.

That's cause all DVDs are supposed to come with the selection menu thing. All but those cinema bootlegs...

Well not nessesarily. Older DVD's (such as my copy of JFK and Bladerunner) do this and so can't be played on the ps2.

Armageddon didn't have a menu, and that played fine on my PS2.

I wish my PS2 could play VCD's then I would have to keep plugging my PC into my TV

I found also that my PS2 wouldn't play Mean Machine (vinny jones is in it). I got stuck at chapter 7 so I took it back to the video rental shop and changed it for another copy and the same happened there. Maybe it has issues when changing layers on some dvd's too???

Weird stuff. Perhaps some important something is needed for the PS2 to play certain DVDs then.
UncleClive: There is a way to play CDs on the PS2, but you need to make a bootdisc and I think it is illegal so discussion about it here isnt allowed.

@Hanamichi:
I dont mind not being able to play VCDs really, I only have a few (Romeo Must Die etc.) You can get some cheaps DVD players now which can handle DVD, CDR, VCD, MP3 CDs etc. for under £100 in UK now, I might get one of those.
