NSF Hot persuit for PC. Some information I found

Quote:

Action Trip: Everyone knows that the Need For Speed series is all about flashy cars and catchy visuals. So with that in mind, can you share more info on the eye-candy in the PC version of the game? Will there be some subtle differences between the PC and PS2 versions (besides the possibility of playing in higher resolution modes of course)?

Elctronic Arts: I have played the PS2 game at length, and I can say with a straight face that in my view it's easily one of the best racers out there for any system. That said, graphically the PC game is going to take advantage of many things that PS2 hardware can't. For instance, the PC features full multi-texturing, stencil-buffered car shadows, cubic environment mapping, and anisotropic filtering (a filter mode that allows for extremely crisp texture appearance). If that's all too technical for you… suffice it to say that the PC platform allows us to jack up the poly counts for both our cars and the driving environments.

AT: But more specifically, do you plan to include high-res textures in the PC version?

EA: Specifically, yes. For instance, our car textures are probably twice as large as the PS2.

This is from the madonion forums. But it looks like the PC version is a reality and we can expect the same increases over the PSX version that we saw in NFS Hot Persuit PC version.

Check the forementioned thread. it is about NFS HP2. Since you don't know, the PC version is due out at the end of this month.

I was hardly able to note the textures in the game. This game is just too fast.

if they look good enough I'll stop to admire them, let the cops get near and get away just in time

You'll LET the cops get near you? They stick to your ass all the time. Not to mention when the cops bring in a diablo for pursuit and when it switches on its turbo flames. Stop to enjoy the scenery LOL

But may be you're right. The PC version is a direct port of the XBOX and GC version, which are complained to have been missing a lot of cool stuff from the PS2 version. The sense of Speed and the Extreme mode are missing. Without the same sense of speed, you may just find the time to note the textures around you.

Wow, I can hardly wait for the release. The NFS series has always been my favourite racing series on the PC. I just hope they improved the cops in NFS: HP2. The ones in HFS : High Stakes were just too easy. None of them could keep up with my McLaren F1 GTR, and even with slower cars I could always get away from them.

The cops are smarter this time. Their cars are incredibly fast when the turbo thing(NOS?) is turned on too. They will try to stop you by overtaking you, and then slowing you down while stopping you from reovertaking them. There's also a helicopter throwing exploding barrels at you...
I still enjoy GT3 more, though, for some reason.

Hanamichi, you liked GT3 more????????

GT3 isn't.....well.......FAST enough for me. It is rather TOO realistic. I'd rather go out for a drive.

Well you can tune your cars in GT3, and tuning cars to see how they react to corners is what I like to do, anyway. I like to race againts a formidable opponent whilst avoiding the police in NFS as well, tho.
