Wth? Why would a piece of plastic blow up? Whats more into little pieces?
Well whether things are related to piracy or not, I dont think that will or can be covered in here, since no one can be sure if you trully own the game or not.

Hmm. makes more sense now
Nevertheless, I wont bet on it as Im *quite* sure posting ways to overcome the cd check in here is illegal. You need the patch though, and although I know how I dont have the links to the things you will need so I guess you should wait for Pm's or do a search somewhere else.

Get in touch with rockstar studios or are they called rockstar north now. (the company who made the game). Tell them what happened and ask for a replacement.

that's a more feasable solution. i hate talking to support people... sometimes they just can't understand the situation.

Go for warez. j/k
Your story may be real, since cracked cd's have been known to shoot out of the disc tray across the room(blowing up to pieces is abit extreme tho).
I dont think they will replace your cd, but you can call rockstar and give it a try. They may charge you a fee for a replacement if they offer that kind of services(Blizzard does that). If rockstar wont do it, the only thing you can do is look somewhere else for ways to play the game without the cd. Also unless the store you bought the game from has an angel as an owner, they wont even bother ya.
You might need to tell them the cause of the cracking as well. Heck, tell us too.

I read a similiar story on www.guru3d.com, about some flight simulater cd blowing up....they even posted a screenshot.(I am sure I saw it)
I also recall that the person sent it back to the company and they sent him another free copy.
Try looking for the article on guru3d

What Raiden01 said isn not impossible. I have seen this happen in front of myself. It happened with a cheap CDr pirated copy of a game. It damaged the CD Drive as well, there were crystal pieces of that CD spread inside the Drive. We used a screwdriveer to open up the drive and clean it.

Just for the sidenot; that drive is still working.

This can happen with the new super-fast drives with insanely high platter speeds. I suggest that you use a program to limit your cd-speed down to something reasonable to prevent this from happening again.
