Unhappy Need some help

Hello all... this is my first thread and hopefully not my last. I have a BIG PROBLEM or should i say my friend does. See the problem is that my friend has Dead or Alive 2 (Jap Version) for the DC. Well stupid him(no offense to him) doesn't know how to treat his cds, leaves them laying around. So he comes up to me telling me his cd keeps freezing up on him and tells me to take a look at(nice person i am). So I do and I find to nice scatches on it. So now what i am trying to do for my friend is make him a copy of his cd (oh yeah its going to cost him hehe) to see if i can fix it. So what i am trying to ask is that if anybody has the jap version of the game or english, if it the same files, to help me out with files i might need to replace if any. Thank you have a good nite.

why don't you apply the toothpaste technique on the scratch... it might help in reading the CD.

You use toothpaste to fill in the scratches on the CD.
AFAIK tho, the DC discs have poor error checking so this may not work

man i've described this technique over and over again but okay.... i learned it here to so i guess i have to offer my help... first this is no joke it's for real i have tried it myself and it worked... seconds i don't take any responsability if anything happens to the cd.. so don't blame me.. although this technique is pretty safe... ok:
[1]
first you have to clean the cd from hair and stuff simply take little towel or something and rub it slightly...
[2]
now look for the scratch(es) and take some toothpaste (not important wich one... only look for little crystals like in the mentadent c, and for stuff that "bleaches" your teeth that stuff isn't allowed to be inside! that means no bleaching stuff and no crystals..... a plain cheap toothpaste should do it)
[3]
put a bit of the toothpaste on the scratch and like 1 cm around it... don't overdo it... i mean it's not really dangerous but then you don't know where to rubb...
[4]
let it dry a bit
[5]
now take a piece of toilet paper and take it double (or triple so you hold it good) and start rubbing the toothpaste on the area... not only that scratch the entire area (1 cm) around the scratch.... you have to rubb pretty hard (but don't brake the cd)... this may take a while... just keep rubbing around
[6]
take another piece of toilet paper make it wet and rub the toothpaste off.... if you still see the scratch put the toothpaste on it again and start rubbing again... the area might be a bit blurry... but now the drive should be able to read it correctly... just don't forget to wash the toothpaste off completely and then you have to dry it with a dry piece of toilet paper or something... just be sure there's no more water on it.... i hope it was a help... hmm... i already started thinking about a little step-by-step guide with pics.... maybe later... see ya... and good luck

EDIT: BIIIG MISTAKE!! read the corrected point 2 again... sorry.... sometimes i realize what the little word "not" can change in a sentence

is it because the bleaching chemicals melt the plastic on the CD a bit, and that fills the gaps?

Hmm this is the reason why we should be allowed to make backups of our game. I guess the industry wants this to happen so that we will go out and buy another disc.

also i have to say that this is only the cheapest and quickest idea... there ARe better solutions and stuff...
@lizking:
i don't think this has anything to do with the chemicals... it is more because you know the biggest part of a cd is plastic wich scratches easily and protects the written parts underneath.... so if there's a scratch on that plastic the laser get's splitted and the signal is not correct... now if you rubb away the scratch you make the whole are even so the signal get's trough directly... (this is just an idea...)

toothpaste lightly buffs away the scratch. And another important point is to rub vertically from the inside of the disc toward the outside. DON'T MAKE CIRCLES!!! You'll make your cd even worse.
