Main character's name

How do you call your main characters?
I do like that:
-if he/she already got a name, I donnot change it
-if it's a BoF or a Dragon Quest, I call him Ryu
-if it's a Suikoden, Keynes (because of I got it in the random names in Suiko2).
-Else, I call him Eluil (Don't ask why.. Idonnot know.)

I put in "Squall" for all of my RPGs, man I just love this name.

*EDIT: BTW, I leave all the names of the other characters untouched.

I'd leave a heroine's name untouched, though.

if there is no default name i just make a name up.

- "Ally" for females (it was name of my favorite D&D character)

I usually use "Altar" if i HAVE to rename, otherwise i dont rename
i remember the first time i played ff7 i made up funny names
eg:
cloud -> Spikey
Barret -> Tubby
Tifa -> ummm hehehe
red13 i kept just cuz that sounded cool
vincent became Dracul
hmmm cant remember the rest

I'm an egomaniac so I always name the lead male character after myself, and the other cast of characters after my friends and pets... I try to pick characters that would suit my friends' personality. If the cast of characters is too big though, like CC for example, I'll either keep the names or make up really dumb or random ones... and I always try to include the names Sven, Hakim, Cedric, and Buttercup

Main character named after myself (usually), everyone else has default names. If there are no default names, I go with random names that sound interesting.

i sometimes change the main char's name if his current name sounds stupid to me... aka ... cecil ff4... serge cc... (i dunno, serge just sounded like sarge to me before, and as homer said "im not some dumbass army guy"

I thought of it as "lightning Serge" and treated him accordingly, espeecially since he was white innate

I am an "egotist" also. If the main character is a male and his name can be changed, then I change it to my name. If the main character is a female and her name can be changed I may change it to some other name but most of the time I leave it the way it is.
The supporting characters names I leave alone. The only exception is when I am testing the game and I decide to "horse" around a little. Ths happened in Wild Arms when I renamed Jack to Eyore. Then I decided to save and continue playing the game i had started, so now Eyore is a permanent part of my party.

When the name already exists, I leave it as it is, if there's no name, I either use Raziel or Squall.

If there is a name i try to keep it, but if i dont like it, i just make up one, though i dont like to change non-main character names. If the game is kind of Diablo or such i make up funny names, e.g. i have a diablo2 char called AAAAAURRRGH.

FF4 had to be the best game with the name changing, everyone has a starting name but at almost any time you can change a characters name, which is good cause Cecil is an ... odd name
