FF7 is by fat the best FF, and it is very linear, and not too hard.

the basics of what rpgs? ff uses a comand based battleling, and they are all different they are barely sequells, most of them are just named ff so they will sell. but l ff:mq is the easiest. you may hate rpgs afterwards but it will teach you the basicses.

Don't play Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. It's arguably Square's worst RPG. (Personally, I think that FF9 is, but that's just me.) I think that the best one to start out on would be FF6. It's got a good story, and is fairly easy, as well as contains features that are common to most Final Fantasy games (including the newer ones). FF4 would be my first pick though, if the game weren't so hard. It wouldn't be nice to throw a newbie to Final Fantasy into that game. |

ff8 is the best because of the story lines are very good and it teaches the team work

Well, I was talking about the hardtype version. It is fairly hard, and requires some patience. There are more random encounters, spells are weaker, and the bosses are stronger. The final boss is godlike in stats. But it's a much better game than the easytype version, and is well worth the effort.

If you want to learn the basics, I suggest you play FF7.

IMO, FF7 rocks the most, I really like its materia/magic system, great story too! FF8 is quite good too, but I just don't like the junctioning system. Haven't play FF9 yet BTW.

I'm sorry, but I just CAN'T Recommend FF9 to anyone. I hated that game more than I liked it. FF6 was still my favorite of the series, and was quite involved. The combat system is simple and effective, and the game contains a very good feel.

Final Fantasy I is a good game if you want to deal with clumsy equipment. Your inventory can get full, at which point you must drop the least useful items. Once you deal with that game, I say FF6 or 7 would be the next best thing.
