DOOM 3 requirements out (well, sort of)!

Found this at GameSpot:

Quite a few fans have expressed concern that they won't have a fast enough PC to play Doom III when it comes out, but Carmack repeatedly said the game was designed for the GeForce256 and GeForce2 generation of cards and also commented that a 1GHz CPU will likely be the recommended minimum. Anyone can get into the QuakeCon show floor in Mesquite, Texas, and see a modified version of the demo that got people so excited at E3. At E3 the demo was running at 640x480 at medium-detail levels, but at QuakeCon, the settings were increased to 800x600 at high-quality levels. In both cases, the hardware is the same: a 2.2GHz Pentium 4 and a Radeon 9700--ATI's soon-to-be-released graphics card. The higher resolution for the QuakeCon demo was due to new ATI drivers and general optimizations.

1Ghz of minimum PC, means that if someone is playing this game at 1Ghz PC, he would definitly cry is brains out due to bottlenecks, slowdowns. grrrr... this means I would suffer the same for myself.

From the looks of things, I think I'm pretty set. Or am I? Is my GF4 going to be enough or do I need the 9700?

It shouldn't be too far away. At Quakecon 2002 they stated that all the features of the engine are complete. The bulk of the project is done, they just need to work on the "game" portion of it.

By that time most pc's should be able to meet the min requirements.

i agree with Hanamichi, in the next 6-7 months we may see processors clocked at 3-4Ghz so the bare minimum would be around 1.5Ghz.

Hmmm, another mindless "kill anything that moves" is coming our way ladies and gentlemen. For some reason, I'm not interested in Doom 3 at all. I'm rather interested in what games will be made using the engine. I hated Quake 3 but I really loved Alice. Just my thought. Me? I guess I really need to change my gfx card

Well, I'm really looking forward to Doom 3. They're putting a lot of effort into the single player experience. The first release of the game will be single-player only and they'll make a multiplayer version later. It's supposed to deliver a really immersive and realistic gaming experience, and I believe there's some character interactivity as well. Judging from the graphics alone it's going to be one hell of a game.

Hmm, Alice.. I didn't really like it that much. There wasn't enough action it it for me, the weapons were all pretty much whacked out. All I need in my games is a good ol' rocket launcher or railgun. The artwork was fabulous though.

also the atmosphere was great.... i still remember how i entered that house that moves from the left to right... with those kids inside who are punished in such a bad was... i mean *phew* sometimes i felt a little scared.... also pretty much in the beginning of the game... you know those rooms that look like you travel through a tunnel of water or something like that... you know where sometimes comes a door from the farer side of the tunnel... and at first it's small then it comes closer cause you're faster than it... and finally you realize how big this door is... and you start to think that you should have solved that puzzle quicker... cause you're aware of hitting that door... and then suddenly it opens... and you pass through it *phew*.. REALLY amazing leveldesign...

I never played Alice.... But Medal of Honor: Allied Assault ruled. I think that my PC should meet the requirements, and be playable, which is good, since I don't plan on upgrading anything other than memory, and a hard drive for a long time.

Doom 3 isn't on my to buy list, but games using its engine definately are, I'm sure.

Great...

P3-667Mhz
128megs
GeForce2 MX 400 32meg

My guess is that doom3 will require more from the cpu than the gfx card. Required: GeForce 2 MX, 1ghz P3 That means that NV30 will kick ass! When I upgrade my comp will be around 2.4ghz P4, NV30.

PS: Doom 3 is comming out right around christmas time. Duh

no. i guess itīll stress both. but the difference is. with less powerful graphics card itīll look like ****. thatīs it. and well doom 3 will have multiplayer. but only 4 players maximum. and you canīt enter after a game has begun. the price of pretty graphics. sincerely i really hope that they do something new with the single player otherwise theyīll pay for delivering an old game in a new engine. at least i canīt take that kind of game anymore. moh i liked but it got oh so boring, after some time.
