If you configure epsxe right FF7 can look better on it. The psx version also has better midi music and better FMVs. The benefit of the PC version is that it will run on a low-end system (even a Pentium 100 will work) and doesn't have shifting polygons. There are some problems with it though, such as the bike game and the chocobo racing.

The bike race and chocobo racing problems have been fixed haven't they?

But I would say that FF7PC looks better. The fonts are clearer, and the backgrounds look nicer (IMO)

There was a compatability problem in Windows XP that was fixed with a recent patch (Or so I thought anyway. Anyone with the patch care to comment?)

In that case, go for FF7pc. It has less configuration and it's fonts is better than PSX version. However, if you have a lot experience in emulation and care to use PSX version, then go for it.

On a lot of comptuers the bike race part goes really fast for some reason (more than 2 times as fast), rendering it unplayable. I believe there was a hack to fix the chocobo racing part in XP.

The font and the backgrounds do look a bit nicer, although the resolution's stuck at 640x480. It looks very nice with FSAA, although it won't work on GF3/4 cards.

It ran normal on my PC, when I finished the game.... multiple times.

But I had a really low end system. (Pentium 200, Voodoo3, 32MB EDO RAM.)

Oh, speed issue in Bike Race. I think I had encounter it before. I use my 933 Mhz Pentium III, 256MB RAM and Savage4 video card. All my characters' HP drop a lot because it's too hard too control and maintaining their HPs.

Yeah, I'm actually replaying through FF7 now with Windows XP and the XP 1.3a Patch... Athlon XP 1500+ @ 1.5 ghz, 512 MB DDR Ram, and GeForce256. I've already passed the bike race and the chocobo race and both were completely unplayable, as they zipped through at superspeed. I thought the snowboarding might be the same way, but surprisingly enough there were no speed issues there.

Other issues are that the FMV's (besides being ugly ) are really choppy sometimes and/or delay a few seconds before showing. And when taskswitching, if I task switch while there's any 3d rendering being done, when I switch back to FF7 all I get is a black screen (although it is still running and the game pad and sound still function)- meaning I can only task switch when on the menu or battle-experience screens.

I have PSX version too. So I decode my own FF7 movies for PC to make it better. However, there are no delay before playing the movies on my system. It must be because I play it through the HD. No cd at all.

The delay is because the CD-ROM drive has to spin up before reading data. In slower drives the delay will be less. On a 2x psx CD drive (which I think is always spinning) the data can be read almost instantly. It's sometimes a problem on PC games as well, the game might pause for a second while spinning up the CD for data.

I played FF7 for pc for a few years and, as a result, I got used to the music. When I shifted to FF7 PSX (my pc version stopped working when I got a Nvidia video card), I missed the music from the PC version (and still do).

The faster the CD-ROM drive the faster data can be read off it. Slower CD-ROMs have less spin up time but can`t read data all that fast. A fast CD-ROM drive has a lot of spin-up time but once it gets going it's a lot faster at reading data than a slow drive. It`s also important to note that fast drives are also more prone to errors. There are certain occasions when the drive will kinda choke on the CD and has to spin down or stop before resuming data transfer. But generally it`s better to have a faster drive (most PC games are installed on the hard drive and usually only refer to the CD for cd-check purposes or music) but for emulation purposes (or for games requiring a lot of CD access) a slower drive may be better.

Hehe, my sister's DVD drive takes a whole 10 seconds to spin up! Whenever I open My Computer it spins up the CD, which ends up freezing the comp for the duration of the spin-up time. Talk about annoying!
