nope, but a ps2 that can do a high res. on a pc monitor could be quite interesting. Actually it sounds a lot like the old homecomputers of the 80s/early 90's.

If I can get a ps2 and use it on a monitor, with linux, and play games on it as well, it might be very interesting to get, since it's prolly cheaper than a new pc.

I dont know about that linux vga box but I have bought a redant vga box. The quality of the picture with the vga box is actually quite bad : the colors are really dark and the difference between odd and even frames is quite visible because there is no antialiasing like your TV is naturally doing.

This comes partly from the quality of the redant box but also from the fact the PS2 does not have a better resolution than what you can see on your TV, even the S-VIDEO signal is not any better than a normal signal. Improving the picture quality would in that case require a very expensive and professional hardware as far as I know.

Right now my VGA box stays on my shelf and I prefer to connect my PS2 to my tv-tuner card which gives a better quality and control over the picture when I want to play on my computer monitor.

that's also interesting since I have a very good s-video input on my tv-card.

as for the 3rd party convertors, they are limited to a 640x480 resolution since the ps2 does not output a VESA signal natively.

that wouldnt be too bad. I still have the tv card...

it's very interesting though. From what I read it makes a good computer, AND you have a games console. Plus the fact its cheaper than a new pc.
Really interesting..

yes, but it does give you a complete computer system. Compared to a pc it's cheap, even if you dont have a ps2 yet.

After reading the FAQ completely, I believe I won't be giving it a try

As the HDD ain't compatible with games, the monitor cable too won't work with games; it would be of less use to me.

But thats in my opinion right now, overall this is a great thing. As gaming machine and PC combo, its a good deal. Usually you need monster PC's to play good games, but IMO for simple net browsing and document processing, you don't need that high end system. Plus you'll also a get a tool for developing PS2 games (cool, really cool).
