I still play it online and as for me, yeah, I think it's way better than the single player mode.

depends... V1 is free of charge, besides, the game it's pretty fun in the offline mode but nothing beats meeting other people on the lobbys...

Is PSO V1 worth buying just for the offline?

Well... I live on a country with one of the worst connections ever and still PSO is by far the game I played most without lag (I mean it). Maybe it's because of Sega servers, who knows ? but I assure you that lag is something you won't find by playing online.

I used to play PSO religiously. Not anymore. I gave up when the hackers and cheaters just got too numerous. There was a code to crash anyone in the lobby with potential permanent character curruption, so I immediately stopped playing. Sega couldn't address the hacks properly or in a timely fashion, and I think they just gave up trying.

I have four characters, with about 1000 hours combined on them. Each is in the L120-130 range, and three finished Challenge mode.

I was one of the lucky ones, I got the BroadBand Adapter (aka the ethernet card) so I was able to use my DSL with it. I never had to use the modem.. ever. It was definately a beautiful thing.

Japan and America had to pay for V2. Since it came out so late in Europe, past the point where it was still generating significant revenue for Sega, I guess they figured it would be cheaper not to implement a pay system for them. This also has the side effect of attracting V2 players for when the Gamecube version comes out.

I've been tempted to buy one more 3-month subscription and just go online anyways regardless of the results, but I have so much else keeping me busy I just don't have time.

Yeah.. they rocked.

also let's give credit to Sega's servers, they are the responsibles for allowing us to have such a nice-free of lag game... those are examples of how a server must be.
