--- Sonic Mega Collection --- NGC

Sonic's classic MegaDrive romps - now heading to a Gamecube near you

Sega has released the first four shots of Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube.

The retro compilation brings together Sonic's early 2D MegaDrive escapades - all squeezed onto one teeny Cube disc. And you can't say fairer than that.

First pics --- see posts below

--- FF 1 & 2 on GBA ? --- GBA

That's the word on the street, anyway, following a tease from a respected Japanese magazine

It seems likely that the next week or so will see the official announcement of GBA remakes of the first two games of Square's seminal series. The next issue page of Famitsu, Japan's leading magazine source for all things videogamey promises a major announcement regarding Final Fantasies I and II, and since a GBA outing has long been rumoured (they're already out on Wonderswan), many internet theorists are predicting Nintendo sanctioned releases. Including us. We should know the truth this friday, but in the meantime, allow us to bring you up to speed on the games themselves.

Originally appearing on the NES in 1990, Final Fantasy 1 had a massive girth of 2Mb, and told the story of four travellers (a black-belt, a knight in training and two wizard apprentices) as they sally forth, helping the needy. It's fairly formless stuff, mind, with a series of discrete adventures designed mainly to boost your experience and abilities before a final showdown with the Fiend of the Wind.

Final Fantasy II was a significant advance, appearing on the more advanced SNES and flaunting the resulting graphical and sonic sophistication before a more or less stunned public. The story this time is of The Red Wings, a once-proud squadron of flyers fallen on hard times, and their quest for four crystals. And what's that plot against humanity hidden in the background, mmmn?

Both games seem primed for a GBA release and would be just the ticket on the beach in 2003. We'll either confirm the above or eat our hats later in the week. Stay tuned...

--- Halo finally confirmed --- PC and Mac

Microsoft Game Studios have finally confirmed what our sources have been telling us for some time - you'll be battling the Covenant on your desktop

The PC and Mac versions of Xbox's best game by far will be handled by Gearbox Software and Westlake Interactive respectively, and most improvements will be made in the multi-player arena. Gearbox President Randy Pitchford claims 'We've been dying to play Halo online with a PC ever since its spectacular launch last year. Gearbox has the experience to add enhancements that exploit the multi-player capabilities that PCs are known for.'

Both PC and Mac versions are scheduled for Summer 2003, while Halo 2 should hit Xbox for Christmas the same year.

More news as it breaks !!!

It's classic side-on Sonic fun , but still looks a little bit unpolished.

--- RIDLEY IN METROID PRIME --- NGC

Though I can't confirm it for 100%, thanks to this new screenshot from Metroid Prime, it seems quite obvious that our old friend Ridley will be back.

*Edit*

--- Asmik-Ace will be bringing an RPG -- NGC

Asmik-Ace will be bringing an RPG to the GameCube. The RPG is called Dokapon and will be released this October in Japan. Dokapon is expected to have board game type elements mixed in with its RPG nature.

Previous games of the series have appeared on the Super Nintendo, however the majority of the game's popularity is because of the anime and manga series in Japan.

--- No More ConkerGames --- NGC

Sources close to Rare have told Raretopia that the sequel to Conker';s Bad Fur Day , where development was already started on has been cancelled. The reason for this unknown but people assume it's to blame on the way CBFD on the N64 did sell (read didn's sell well) .

This is very dissapointing because I personally am a big Conker fan and I found CBFD to be one of the coolest games ever available for N64.Period.

Goodbye Conker. I´m gonna miss you.

Thanks to the good people of UK Playstation.

doh.
It must've been the marketing. Not the quality of the product.

When I first read the thing about Conker I couldn't believe it. But I also know why Conker didn't sell so well that's due to the fact of it being a "mature"game and you had to be 18 or older to buy it (or have a parent or friend buy it) that was a big mistake because as most of us know Nintendo is mostly seen as a "child's console" due to the "kiddy"games they get ... but nice things don't last forever so once more au revoir Conker.

--- FFXI on PC + First Screens ---

On the graphic side of the game the versions are like brother and sister , alpha and omega , because the screens I just got could be directly ripped of a PS2. Now only hoping that the specs won't be to high and that it won't require any patches , before we can fully enjoy it.

Release in Japan: march 2003

-- Worms 3 revealed --- Multi Platform

And this time it's gone all three dimensional on us

Work is well under way on Worms 3 - and, this time, it's gone 3D. Developers Team 17 have just launched an official Worms 3 web site that reveals for the first time that the game will boast of an added third dimension.

The game, which is due out next year, will also feature fully deformable landscape technology - hence dramatically increasing the strategic options offered in comparison to the previous games in the comedy-strategy series.

So caves, cliffs, holes, multiple levels, buildings, ropes and tunnels will be featured in all their 3D glory. Better still, the new environments will allow you to use such tactics as shooting through floors at players below you or tunnelling through hillsides.

The game is being developed for PS2, Gamecube, Xbox and PC (which will feature online play and a full terrain and level editor). An announcement about who will publish the game is expected to be made later this summer.

--- Pokemon Returns --- GBA

First GBA Pokemon games announced... November release for Japan, 2003 for UK

Nintendo has confirmed that the first two Pokemon games for GBA will be Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire. The games will have a simultaneous release in Japan on 21 November, with the European release to follow in 2003.

So, if you were wondering what the biggest games of next year were going to be - now you know. Thus far, over 100 million Pokemon games have been sold worldwide.

Following the adventures of Johto in Pokemons Gold and Silver, the new GBA titles promise to be the biggest Pokemon experiences yet. In a quest to become the top Pokemon master players will have access to a brand new world that boasts graphics way beyond anything seen in previous Pokegames.

New features include new trainers, advanced trading and battles - along with, of course, new Pokemon to add to your Pokecollection. The game also houses a new tag system that allows you to team up two Pokemon in battle against your rivals.

"Pokemon on the Game Boy is one of the best-loved global game series and has sold over 23 million units across Europe alone," enthuses David Gosen, Managing Director of sales and marketing for Nintendo Europe.

"Its evolution onto the Game Boy Advance will open a brand new Pokemon world and gaming experiences that will excite fans worldwide."

Since its launch in Japan six years ago, Pokemon has become the biggest games franchise ever, with over 31,000 individual licenses worldwide. A staggering and, let's be honest, slightly scary statistic. The last Pokemon outings, Gold and Silver, sold a whopping one million copies in Europe in two days.

Did I mention that Pokemons Ruby and Sapphire are likely to shift a copy or two?

I have the exact same feeling about that , that's why I'm getting a GC next week and I'm thinking of selling my PS2.

Pokémon games where amusing in the beginning but after the third version the game really got boring , I can't understand what kids like about them anymore.
