Character Deaths

What does everyone think about them? I mean sometimes they're ok for making the story deeper (Aeris in FFVII), but I hate it when you spend so much time building them up and getting all their cool abilities and all of a sudden they die in the story. And I think FFIV went a little too far with characters dying. Oh well.

Yeah it can make the story deeper, but to loose a good fighter from your team is annoying.

This suddenly reminded me of Mareg in Grandia 2. Fortunately you can get back all the experience you gave him.

It doesn't bother me if they do like how they did it in the grandias, you get all of their stats back.

Yeah, that's probably the only time it isn't as annoying. But in FF games, it's extremely annoying.

She was an awesome healer and magic user. And her more advanced limit breaks were really useful. And near the beginning, if you equip her with the long range materia she could do at least a little more damage with her physical attacks.

Her death annoyed me the most because I spent a lot of time getting all her limit breaks. Great Gospel had to be one of the best limit breaks for the party even though Omnislash still rules! But I found Aeris to be more useful than Tifa or Yuffie.

What about in Lufia 2, that blue haired guy. He's like the most awesome fighter in the game and he dies, well for a while at least (high hit points, attack and defense). That sucks soo much. I havent played it in soo long so i cant remember but i think you get him back later on.

I didnt mind Aeris dying, its part of the game. Aeris was a great healer, but I switched to Tifa after she died. Its the game that I want to play, not complain over the death of a character in the game.

Am I the only person in the world who could really care less if Aeris gets a sword through her gut? She wasn't that great anyway IMO.

Anyway, I thought that FF4 was pretty good as far as character deaths go. But the grand champion of character deaths is Eternal Darkness. That game is unbeleviably well concieved.

Don't never forget this rpg game: Valkyrie Profile. All the mortal warrior/mage that they joined you are all dead except goddess or undead.

You don't get him back (as a member of your party) but it does come back as an NDP.

I hate it when a really good character dies in the game. Examples are General Leo in FF6, the monk in FF4, Mareg in Grandia 2, and the dwarf in Warcraft 3 (just when I get used to him and his awesome abilities he dies ).
