Bah! I hate you. I STILL haven't gotten my copy, mainly because I don't have a car, and the stores were sold out on the one chance I had to snag one. I have the option of ordering one online, or waiting until Saturday on the chance that I can still get one from a store. I might get a chance to rent a copy tomorrow, but I wouldn't bet on it. Anyway, I am extremely angry at the loss of my chance to play it already. I have been waiting for 3 frickin years already. |

Well certainly is a very enjoyable game, because it could be so bizzarre, mistic, frightening, fun, weird and sometimes misunderstandable that enchants you in a glance. Ninja come on, the wait completely worth it(in fact I'd drag to the store to buy it )thanks zrepiV & GoTrunks48. The game intro is awesome I tried to watch the video from IGN and gamespot but as you know you gotta pay and I got furious that time. The real scary factor is not the enemies, nor the music, is the psicological one that you don't know what is happening there that's what I'd consider the real scary factor, the outstanding the elements that conforms it sucks you in having you want to play it at the moment. The story was made correctly revealing you little by little with the right dosis as you advance in the game in addition that you have that question all the time: What's going on in here?? all the time even with the little revelations of the story as you get through it. The main character Ms. Alexandra Roivas:love: *sighs* is so intelligent. By the time you grab the famous The Tome of Eternal Darkness the real journey begins, and you get even more confused with the upcoming events, you get back to the year 26 B.C. in Persia an play as a Roman warrior, I think this first tome chapter that you have to complete is the one that decides your adventure because there are three options when you complete it, the next ones are affected by on what you've done there. This makes me think that there could be like a three parallel possible histories up to what you do on this point, then you get back to the mansion and find another tome page=other time leap this time to the year 1150 A.C. IIRC and you keep leaping through time. Another interesting thing is that if you don't kill and literary terminate the enemys you can start to halucinate, there's a Sanity bar that keep your character' mind fine so if you don't do that He/She will start to halucinate and is kind of fun let that happen. Every different character has a very special adventure with its own bunch of puzzles, secrets, weapons and individual story that eventually every story have relationships between each other. Man there's a lot of things to comment about this game that I might miss a lot of important details. It has real Dolby ProLogic II sound support so if you own a Home Theatre the gaming experience is more valuable, and I'm convinced that these kind of games must be played at night, that way you enhance the experinece. The control system is comfortable, the environmets are full 3D like the ones in RECV or even more, the backgrounds are cool(but I insist no match for the RE ones), voice acting cool, sound, FX cool too. I'd like to explain all my experience with the game but have just played for about 1 hour and 30 mins because I'm tired as hell, but I hope you can get your copies soon so we can share impressions about the game. Happy future playing  And as I get deeper in the game and can order better everything I'll let you know Last edited by Phoenix; June 28th, 2002 at 06:34.. |

That game is on my wish list, but I have to wait even longer for the European version ![]() Since it seems to be based on H.P. Lovecraft's work it's really a must-have for me. BTW, that sanity feature is just the adaption from the pen&paper RPG "Call of Cthulhu" from the early 80s (1981?), and Sandy Peterson, the author of CoC, admitted that he borrowed the rule of an even older magazine for "Tunnels&Trolls", which happens to be the second oldest RPG overall (1975). Not to diminish the use of sanity in Eternal Darkness, but it's funny that the video game developers needed that long to utilize a rule that old. OT: Just ordered the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack, yay!

Boo! I rented ED and I have to say that it isn't as great as I expected it to be. The graphics don't use the full GC power, the sanity meter doesn't seem to do anything except make you enemies dissapear and give you a funny camera angle. Plus I somehow lost all my sanity when I accidently attacked a friendly person. Also, when I entered some door with at least 5 enemies all over the place the game decided to think my GC controller was disconnected, and I got killed in about .5 seconds. So far, not so good. I didn't even get a god-damn chance to save my game so now I have to start over again....

Alright, I'm finally back. In case you hadn't noticed, I have been away for a while. The reason being that I finally managed to rent a copy from my local video store. Simply said, Eternal Darkness rules. The magic system is something that I won't go into, being that it would seriously be a spoiler. However, the system is fresh and new, and it is seriously freaking cool. The insanity effects in the game didn't hit me as hard as they should, since I just couldn't keep myself spoiler free before playing the game, but the effects are still very entertaining. I sometimes keep my sanity purposefully low just so that I can play with them. ![]() The storyline is just genius. It maintains an atmosphere that is a lot like Silent Hill mixed with Valkyrie Profile. (Very cool). I am not too terribly far in the game (about 50% of the way through in about 9 hours of gameplay. (stupid work)), but what I have seen is great so far. I would recommend that anyone who likes video games in the slightest bit, go out and buy this game. It is that cool. Anyway, I have to go back to my game. I just got my OWN copy, along with a memory card 251. I am very happy. I don't have to work until 10AM tomorrow, and I fully intend to finish the game by then. 2 solid days should be enough I think.EDIT: I won't be doing any console fighting for a while. Too busy. This will be my first and only post for a while. When I finish the game, I will post again. I will keep trying to keep my posts spoiler free though.

Well well, wadda' ya know! Every thing went along much better this time around, I noticed a few of the cool effects that happen when you are losing sanity, the bathtub one was the good , and a few other things. I managed to make it to Karims chapter. Things don't really make much sense so far but it's starting to.

well there's a lot of insanity effects, you got caught by one of them as you told us on your first post. Certainly the game is new, I couldn't categorize it on a genre because it simply wouldn't fit on any. Sometimes on the game seems like if you were Indiana Jones. I managed to make it through chapter 9, the Peter Jacobs one back to the 1st world war, pretty interesting, and the story is still the core of the game, actually I got stuck like an hour because of the spells. Maybe I'll finish it this weekend. |

Woo Hoo!!!!!! I just finished the game. My final game time was a few minutes short of 14.5 hours. I think that's quite good considering the length of the game. the only times I really got stuck was in the final two levels. They have some pretty tricky things in there. For those who are curious, I played the blue scenario first. I will play the red one tomorrow. ![]() Anyway, I must say that the game is great. The story never slowed down at any point, and I just love the characters. There is nothing really special about any of them, they are just forced into doing great things by the events that take place. I just love that concept. The story is simply epic. It would do the best RPG great justice, and in a game like this, it is even better. Much of what happens is predictable, but the majority of it took me completely by surprise. Asz, you are at the point where the game is beginning to come together, and you are told what is going on. As Phoenix has said, the game just doesn't fit any genre, but if I had to pick one, I would say that it is an adventure game. It plays a lot like a Zelda style adventure. The insanity effects do add a whole extra level of depth to the game. Asz, you still have lots to see methinks. They hit you when you least expect it, as you have already seen. The difficulty in the game is pretty even for the most part, with a shallow learning curve. The starting levels in the game are challenging enough to be interesting, but you aren't in grave danger. As the game progresses, you meet new, and much stronger enemies, and you tend to be less well equipped. I found the difficulty to be just about right. The graphics are nothing spectacular and don't take advantage of a lot of GameCube features, but they are still respectable. The only real problem I have with them is that the fires don't always look right (more like dust than fire). However, the character models are decent, with lots of eye movement, and good animations. The game runs at a solid 60fps, making for a nice smooth framerate. Being a N64 owner, I am especially happy about that. ![]() The music is quite nice, with vocals, and orchestrated tunes. It gets repetitave at times, but I didn't think it really got that annoying. Unfortunately, I played through the whole game on a mono TV, so I can't comment on the Pro Logic II support, but I hear it's quite nice with a good sound setup. As far as voice acting goes, it's top of the line. A lot of MGS voices were there, as well as a few others that escape me at the moment. The bottom line is that I found the game to be a pleasing length, and mentally stimulating. It is a must buy for all GameCube owners who can handle a bit of blood. There is dismemberment, blood, violence, VERY disturbing images, but no swearing or sexually explicit scenes. Anyway, I have to go to work in 7 hours, and I still need to get some sleep, so I'll post some more tomorrow. For those who have a GameCube, what are you still doing here? GO PLAY! |

>"The insanity effects do add a whole extra level of depth to the game." Yeah, *SPOLIER* when that statue head started tracking me I ran up to it and hit the hell out of it, but then I just realized I was insane. ![]() >"The graphics are nothing spectacular and don't take advantage of a lot of GameCube features, but they are still respectable. Yes, this game puts Sony's "Emotion Engine" to shame, the emotions expressed by characters are much better then anything i've seen the PS2 produce (I'm not hating PS2, but just saying....) The character models look good though, not the best but good enough for me. The only thing that looks a bit lacking is the moster models, they just don't look good enough. >"The music is quite nice, with vocals, and orchestrated tunes. I have my own little speaker set-up (I plugged my L&R audio jacks into my 3-CD changer Stereo) and everything sound just great. The only thing I didn't like is some of the music, it sounds too similar to what I heard in Blood for PC, a bunch of moaning. *Note to self: Moaning is not by any means, singing. |

What???? Moaning is the best! It beats Silent Hill's beating pot lids together. ![]() As for the monster models, I don't think you have seen the best ones yet. The winged ones, and the translucent blue ones are the best I think. There are a few scenes when the camera zooms in real close on them, and you can see them real good. They are quite well done. |
