Angry FPS games for consoles

Is it just me or do the controls suck ? I just bought MOH:Frontline for the PS2 and I can hardly enjoy it due to the controls, since i have to use the analog stick to walk around and aim. Why do people still give it 9.x ratings on gamespot? Or is it really just me?

well for FPS games or shooting games, we prefer using PC than consoles because of the easy flow of the controls... and much better because your up against many others in multiplayer modes

When Quake came out I had to learn the mouse/keyboard controls at first, but now I think that about any FPS is very hard to control by other means.

I agree. FPS' on consoles won't work unless you have a keyboard and mouse avaliable. The Analog sticks simply aren't quick enough.

I believe that there are keyboard and mices available for comsoles, to eliminate the control problem.

IIRC Unreal tournament on the PS2 can even be played with a sharkboard.

Yeah controls can be very annoying, but some console pads work very well with FPS like the N64 pad.

So I have to buy extra equipment to play the game. The graphics, sound and gameplay are amazing, IMO much better than the MOHAA for the PC but the controls are...
When I first started using the mouse and keyboard for FPS gaming I liked it right away. Using analog sticks just wont suit me right. The D-pad works way better if only I could use it

True, but even then it's a very different experience, since most players seem to like that they can sit on a couch while playing on a console, which isn't possible if you need to control mouse and keyboard.
Also I tried Soldier of Fortune on the Dreamcast with mouse and keyboard, and it was far from perfect. Not to mention the very long loading times and the fact that each PC level was split into smaller parts.

My point is, if you have to play a FPS like on a PC to play it right then you could as well play it on the PC.

Well since you've got the game you've got 2 options:

1. Stick it out with the pad and try to get used to it more.
2. Or spend more money on KeyBoard and Mouse if the game is compatible, then you,ve got the best setup there is really.

well if your gonna paly it in the consoel, learn to adjust to it... I played MOH (the first and second one) in PS1 and you have to adjust to some extent using the L1 and R1 pad. But don't expect that it would be easy though...

Hmmm, why can't console gamepads have a rolling ball (like in some pc mice) that people could use to aim. It's much more easier. I already have the design in my head but I'm very bad at drawing, sadly It would be on the back of the controller in place of L1 and R1 (the right side). That way, u can aim more fast and accurate. Ofcourse, moving and shooting with this might be a little bit hard, I think

Alternatively, it could take the place of one of the Analog sticks...

Sure thing. It's strange such an Idea wasn't done 'till now. What about putting an anolog stick that comes out and under it is the ball

Its a little hard to do that, because the controller would have to detect weather the analog stick is on or not, since a ball and an analog stick works differently. Besides, the analog stick will have to return to its original position once the user releases the stick from grip. Nice idea tho, they should work something out

I think Ill choose to get used to it... the thing is using the analog stick gives me headaches after like 10 mins of playing MOH. Dunno why

I played "Disruptor" on the PSX, nice game, no problem with a digital pad. About the same feeling like playing Doom on the keyboard.

Rolling ball huh... well in my design class, I have experimented incorporating the mouse track ball in a PS controller... it was a innovative design my prof said!

I generally don't like fps games on consoles either, but there is a rare gem here and there. I hear that Halo is one, and I know that I play Perfect Dark quite a bit. But I am generally not a fan of fps games, and so I am usually quite happy with the console selection.

Halo, I really wonder how that game is played. It's much too fast to make mistakes because of the controller.

Hmmmm, why not try putting the the ball in the side of the pad, alone. That way u won't use it until u need it and it woun't have problems with the analog stick. I small ball that is sunk inside the pad woun't bee too annoying when holding it

Yeah quite a nice idea, but it would be better accessed like the Z trigger on N64 pad was.
