A Sad Day for Gamers.
I am not sure which forum to post this in. Off-Topic just didn't seem right, and this does affect all Nintendo games. If a moderator disagrees with me, they can move it to a more appropriate forum. Today, Hiroshi Yamauchi, long time CEO of Nintendo, has stepped down. Satoru Iwata will replace him. Personally, I am saddened by this, although I am sure that many of you will be cheering about now (and Nintendo employees). Yamauchi was the greatest President of Nintendo in its long history, and he has been responsible for much of the magic of the company. He was a strong leader, and will be missed. |

You even know the names of CEOs. You just won the Fawad's Best Fanboy award. |

Seriously, the guy was my hero. He was by far the most blatant fanboy ever (you would know what I meant if you read any of his interviews). He was mean as hell, and never had anything good to say about the competition. He worked his employees to an extent that was simply inhumane, and he has to have pissed off just about every fan of Nintendo in his stay as the CEO of Nintendo. Syed, he was a great man. Nintendo representatives and rulers have always been very interesting people, and the interviews with Shigeru Miyamoto, and Hiroshi Yamauchi were always the best. Miyamoto is always nice, and speaks freely. Yamauchi basically did his best to make everyone hate him. My favorite Yamauchi moment? the time that IGN reported that in the next interview with Yamauchi, he was expected to knock over an old lady, take candy from a baby, and kick a puppy. It summed up his personality nicely. I'll seriously miss the guy. He did a good job for Nintendo. It was under his rule that the NES was developed, and with the time that he picked to leave, Nintendo has never held a brighter future in its hands. |

Maybe he suddenly grew up. CEOs are supposed to be short-lived tenures anyway, even in Japan. He prolly had a wonderful run, but a successor has been groomed, and it's simply time for him to step down, sip his green tea, and maybe enjoy a Gamecube game or two.

Well, Hiroshi Yamauchi is the only president of Nintendo we have known, he is inevitably the best ![]() Btw do not forget he made some stupid choices like preserving the cartridge support for the N64.

i think Yamauchi made his decision to use cartridge coz thyre harder to duplicate than CD's. Wise decision but hackers always get there in the end

Square could have developed for the N64, except they wanted to show off their CG technology. If FF7 was a true 3D game (no pre-rendered crap) and had cut-scenes for the CGs then they could have easily fit it into the N64 game cartridges. Instead Square wanted to impress people with flashy graphics and movies and ended up neglecting the gameplay. I think they should have stuck with Nintendo. The multi-media is what fills most of a PSX CD. If you chop all that out then you actually end up with a really small game. And the loading time on the PSX is rather dreadful. The first time I saw a PSX in action I was very unimpressed. It took like 10 seconds to load a fight scene in SS3 when in the Neo Geo version running on my P100 it was instantaneous.

I have always been a cartridge person myself. Load time bothers me more than any kind of graphical error. In the N64's case, it wasn't the cartridge though, it was everything in the system. It wasn't developer friendly, and that killed it faster than anything. The graphics on the BS1 were very unimpressive for the most part, and the load times rivalled those of the best PC games. In comparison, the N64 version of RE2 was simply gorgeous, and fit into a space that was a fraction of the BS1's version. One last thing to say in the N64's defense. Name one game on BS1 that could hope to compete in audio, graphics, or fun factor with Conker's Bad Fur Day. |
