Doom 3 info

You gotta check out this info on Doom III from E3 if you are a fan (even if you are not). The screenshots are amazing. Check out GameSpy's look here: http://gamespy.com/e32002/pc/doom3b/index.shtml

They could of at least made some new characters. With my sharp eye and good memory of the Doom series, they look much dideous, and Fat Bastard, where does he shoot the missles?

They said that you will need a GeForce 3 with a ~1.2 Ghtz machine to play it at 620x480 with a decent framerate (about 25-30 FPS) ID was demoing it on a 2.2 GHtz with some unreleased Radeon card.
And bout putting this in Game Discussion, sorry. Id di not see that folder and this was the closest one I saw.

I have a 1 Ghz P3 and a GeForce 2 Pro. I'm just a bit under the minimum specs but I'm going to try it anyways. Maybe I can play it in a small window like I did with Unreal on my P100

I would bet on first half 1003, not late. And Carmak did mention a while ago that he planned to make a "GeForce 2 compatibility mode." He said it would not look nearly as good, but would be playable. Also, ID software has always pushed the envelope with system requirements. Many, many people bought blazing fast 40 Mhtz 486 DX machines just to play DOOM almost a decade ago now.

hmmm.. the graphics look great, but they are just a little too clean. I think they should put a grime layer over top of them to make them look a little less clean. (Resident Evil for GameCube does this)

It seems that both Unreal2003 and DoomIII engine is going to handle real time physics, with DoomIII's doing better graphics, perhaps. Man I cant wait.. to go to the cybercafe 2 years later.
I wonder what the father of deathmatch has to say, having left Id.

man, I hate those fileplanet files (the doom iii video)
I never wait in line for those. anyone got a copy and would share it? or is it legal to share it?

anyway the screenshots are too much. Why do we need such details in such obviously computer-generated graphics? maybe it's just me, I found it not realistic at all.

tho I do hope that doom iii can bring back some of the qualities that doom had, and no other game did.

Computer games get more and more realistic and the amount of detail increase as well. And you should never underestimate the significance of details, you'd be surprised how the smallest details can affect the entire game as a whole. At any rate it looks way more realistic than anything else I've seen, including Unreal 2, Max Payne and FF X.

Just for the sake of argument, the racing/sim games have become so realistic over the years. Like GT3.
The FPS genre however, hasn't really made much progress in that sense. Developers seem to go for more and more violents and "coolness" in the graphics, rather than making it more realistic.
Perhaps that's what the markets want. More realism in sims, more coolness in action games. But I'm saying, if coolness is what you want, than those details I saw in the doom3 shots are a little overkill.

btw, I got that stupid doom3 movie. all 82mb of it. Not much to see tho.

This is what I was trying to say in my post. The graphics in Resident Evil originally had this problem, so Capcom responded by filthifying the screen. (If you have played the game, you will probably notice that the graphics aren't quite as clean as they should be.)

The effect doesn't create as good of a screenshot, but it makes the game that much more engrossing. It really makes it look real. But I have found that the problem with fps games is that resolution and sharpness are all that matter. IMO it does look to computer like.
