PC Games

Can anyone help me? I've experienced 2 games with this problem. The first was Parkan : Iron *something*. The second had just happened, with Grandia 2. The problem is: after I open the application that runs the games, they closed. Just closed, like that. With Parkan, the application just opened about 2 seconds, then closed. With Grandia 2, the UbiSoft logo was shown, then it closed.
I HAVE been able to play them, though, for a while. But then suddenly I can't, and this problem keeps happening. This happened with both games.
Anybody can tell me why?
Thanks a bunch!

hmm... try downloading some new video or sound drivers to see if they are of any help... if theyre for the pc that means they also should have some downloadable patches which you could try to dl.

sincerely,

The movelist for Soul Calibur should be on www.gamefaqs.com

When I got probs like that I re-installed, although I would suggest using that as a last resort.

rei_fox, not reformatting necessarily, but reinstalling windows from scratch. That means that he would have to reinstall all his wndows programs , etc. all over again.
SandslashxBro, I must agree w/Lord Kane. I think that reinstalling Windows may be your only way to resolve this. It sounds like DX may have gone corrupt on you and, if this is indeed the case, there is no other way to fix DX except to reinstall Windows and then reinstall DX. I had a problem similar to yours once and when I reinstalled Windows and DX, everything was fine again.
sincerely,

The safest way is to reformat IMO. Reinstall windows will only copy the new files over the old files and preserve the registry and other system setting. If the registry setting cause the problem so you may experience the same problem again. Another way to avoid reformat is delete the windows folder and then reinstall windows.

Which is why I have a seperate Windows Partition (4Gb) so that I can re-format said drive without losing my essential data.

That's why you delete the Windows and Program Files directory first before re-installing (Windows XP can also be uninstalled I think). Just move all the personal data to other folders and wipe out Windows. It'll be like it never existed

Yes, XP can be uninstalled by deleting the windows, document and setting and program files folder.

I tried that once on a dual-boot system (deleted the WINNT directory) but the system failed to boot up. It game me an error while looking for some file in the C:\WINNT\System32 directory, which of course didn't exist. I couldn't get into my Windows ME system at all. Maybe if you write over the MBR it'll work.

But with the provious game, Parkan, I was using Win98, and Now I'm using WinXP to play Grandia 2. Could my DX and Windows be broken in both cases? Isn't that a bit unlikely?
Any other solutions, anyone?

Besides, I don't have any problems with any other programs, just these 2. RA2, for example, works perfect for me.

I got similar problems too, and dx can be removed using dxbuster(search on google) and windows can be reinstalled easy(98se that is).

I think using the detonator 23.11 drivers makes sure it doesn't happen.

NOW my emulation stuff (VBA, ePSXe, and ZSNES) plays terribly too, slow, and skips. I can only play PC games like Red Alert and Star Craft now!
