If you have homebrew on your wii do not update

If you have homebrew on your wii do not update to wii menu 4.2

here's what it does

- Deletes most homebrew.
- Now uses IOS70. (No Preloader due to that)
- Wii Shop Channel updated. Use WiiSCU to update the shop channel. Use NUS Downloader to download the Wii Shop Channel v17
- Most of the IOS's have been updated or stubbed.
- Updates your boot2 to boot2v4 (what LU64+'s have). (That means no downgrading of any IOS, and due to that, you can't revert back to your old System Menu. So BootMii as boot2 installed is removed.)

heres another reason not to update

Quote:
Nasty reports are beginning to surface that the latest Wii update, which was intended primarily to remove "homebrew" content, is actually destroying some consoles.

Both NeoGAF and and Nintendo's technical support forum are being hit with reports from people whose Wii consoles have frozen during the download of the 4.2 update and will not reboot when they're unplugged and restarted. It was originally suspected that only consoles with the Homebrew Channel installed were being damaged but it now appears to be a random issue, as some "non-HBC" Wii owners are claiming that their systems have been "bricked" as well.

The problem appears to lie with the "boot2" program, which the Wii requires to start up properly. Changes to that program as a result of the update leave it prone to write errors which can cause the console to refuse to boot, regardless of whether or not it has ever been modified. The risk is only present during the update process, however; once the update is complete, there is no risk of your system coming to harm.

Nintendo has remained silent on the matter thus far and some users with out-of-warranty systems have reportedly been told they'll have to cover the cost of repairs themselves, although that stance could presumably change if this grows into a "Red Ring of Death" style problem. In the meantime, until the matter is settled once and for all, it's probably best to just avoid this update altogether.

There are solutions to update to 4.2 without losing any homebrew now, so this is null and void. I don't think we can discuss the methods here, though.

Waninkoko. You forgot an "n." Anyway, yeah. I'm on 4.2U now with no issues and no patches done to the menu[HAXX, etc. will be removed, but it doesn't matter].

I've just been lazy, that's all. When 4.1 was made available, I decided to ignore it and not update because I didn't feel like searching around for patches. It's not like it offered any actual enhancements anyway. 4.0 allows channel installation on SD cards and enables SDHC, so updating to 4.0 was a good move.

*Shrug* Guess I'm a bit of a sucker for being on the latest update, when it has no negatives, like 4.2, when properly updated.

Btw, Preloader .29 works fine if you force IOS 60 to be the System Menu IOS as well.

Ah, good to know.

A Homebrew Channel update occured within a few hours of 4.2's release. I didn't find a changelog, but I did notice that HackMii, dvdx, and of course the HBC itself were updated. For 4.2 I presume.

As a side note, I don't like the new HBC look. The fonts and the aspect ratio of the homebrew icons seem a bit "off" or at least very "un-wiish".

I think they tried to accommodate widescreen users with the new fonts. Not sure though.
