{Facepalm} to Sony

Seriously Sony headquarters needs to turn on there brain or else they will drive the company to a ruin.. why do i think that way???

imagine a PSP owner with about 30 PSP games that wants to upgrade to the PSPgo... that person will have to:

1. Buy a crappy designed PSP.
2. No UMD support... wait he still have 30 games!!!.... bad luck thereīs no way to convert them so he will have to buy them again lol.
3. Higher price.
4. Buy high priced Digital game he/she probably own already.

donīt get me wrong but i smell fail.

Quote:
Existing PSP owners hoping to pick up a PSP Go and transfer their existing UMD games to the handheld are going to be out of luck--Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Sony Computer Entertainment America have confirmed that there will be no way to transfer existing UMD purchases to the new download-only PSP Go.

"We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time," a Sony representative told GameSpot.

Sony's decision stands in marked contrast to sentiments expressed by Sony Computer Entertainment America hardware marketing director John Koller in June. Upon the PSP Go's unveiling at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Koller stated that Sony was putting together a "goodwill program" that would allow UMD owners to download games they already own on the PSP Go.

PSP Go has no love for the UMD.

The Ģ224 ($249) PSP Go lacks the UMD drive from previous versions, relying solely on digital downloads to purchase games. The system comes with 16GB of internal memory to store games, which can be expanded via Sony's proprietary M2 memory cards.

Yesterday, SCEE announced its PSP Go Rewards scheme, which will allow current PSP owners to claim three free games, provided they own at least one UMD. However, the selection of games is limited to just 17 titles, which include Killzone: Liberation, Wipeout Pure, and Everybody's Golf. The scheme will launch alongside the console on October 1 and will run until March 31, 2010.

[UPDATE] SCEA also confirmed for GameSpot today that it has no plans to extend the PSP Go Rewards program to US consumers. "SCEA will not offer a UMD rewards program at this time," a Sony representative said.

It's the final PSP model, hence the name.

My thoughts exactly. I do fear for the continuity of the PSP right now, after the 3000 with its bad screen, the Go isn't an alternative either. Most likely I'll move to a smartphone instead and leave handheld gaming for what it is. It's a shame but in the end I still play most games when at home anyway. My money would be better spent on a PS3.

If only they'd release a Monster Hunter on PS3

"We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time," a Sony representative told GameSpot.

Lol so much BS. Many alternatives can be thought out. Trading your UMD games on retailers for a code that will let you download the same game in the PSN Store (or some similar method)? see is not that hard.

But who cares. Sonybots and uneducated people will buy this no matter what. There are a bunch of people around here where i live who are going to buy it because is the new and coolest psp yet. And they have no idea the only way to buy games is online. Sony can do whatever they want. I bet if they announce a PSPGOless with 2 buttons, no online support, NO umd and a 2mb mem stick with Ms PacMan it will sell like hot cakes.

After all...

Why not just consider it a new system, and accept the fact that there's no backwards compatibility?

It would have been a good idea had they offered up games at slick prices ala Steam (yes, I realize Steam rips Euros off....but it's often insanely cheap here in NA).

According to Sony's policy, it just seems that the sheer attempt at opening an PSPGo is to be considered 'hacking'. And 'hacking' the PSPGo has apparently already been done.

ps: Battery not soldered to board because soldering wire is too expensive for Sony.

I have no quarrels with the PSPGo, or rather, the way it handles getting games. It means that, no matter what, you can always get a copy of your game, so long as you have internet access. Much like Steam.

The only problem is that they are advertising as a PSP. Had they used this system with the PSP2, I don't think many would have had a problem. They would complain about it not having backwards compatibility too, but the fact that it's a new console for new games would make it worthwhile.

As it stands, it's the second console(that I know of, at least) not to be compatible with itself, the fist being the DSi(Guitar Hero games, for example, don't work with it. You also can't get some of the bonus from having GBA games in the DS with it either).

Seriously i donīt think the 16GB internal memory is enough and not even adding another 16GB one which makes 32GB seems to be enough either.. we have to take in mind that some PSP games are up to 1,5GB if am not mistaken and few of them are even multi-disc aswell. and if you store some music or video.... oh boy... not enough.

Douchebags.

Thanks god that I don't like handheld consoles because they are extremely over-rated. But to be honest, I like the previous PSPs. They're more than a handheld videogame console.
