Indeed

I own the GC versions of Metroid Prime 1, 2, and 3 yet I still purchased the trilogy. Why? Well, because playing MP 1 and 2 with Wiimote controls is awesome! It's infinitely better than using a stupid gamepad in a FPS. No, not as good as keyboard and mouse, but still... to me it was worth it.

I'll gladly buy a native PS3 version of these games. Others may not feel the same way, but then again, others simply shouldn't buy it.

I think they would look better on PCSX2, unless the rereleased versions have improved texture quality and improved player/enemy models.

They should have went for 1080p instead of 720p. the ps3 could do it. If you could get 60 fps 1080p through emulation then you can certainly do it when you run it natively on the ps3.

How are you so sure that they aren't using software emulation on the blu ray disk and pulling the wool over our eyes?

This is great news.

Sadly and luckily I haven't played GoW 1 and 2 before, just Chain of Olympus on Psp.

Despite Sony’s own admission that the God of War Collection remakes are just “ports”, that’s not to say both games will be identical to their PS2 forebears when they hit the PS3.

That’s because, aside from the stuff we already knew—720p, 60 frames per second, 2x anti-aliasing—the collection’s developers haven’t ruled out making the odd upgrade here and there.

“So, we’re still kind of evaluating,” Sony’s John Hight told IGN, “but we were prepared to upgrade the textures, at least on Kratos on both games, but honestly it’s looking so good that we’re thinking, you know what? It’s probably better to keep it in its pure form.”

Things are a lot less “maybe”, a lot more “definitely” when it comes to the game’s respective displays and user interfaces, however, Hight saying “It looked great back on the PS2 on a regular TV, or even an HDTV, but once you get into an HDTV running at 720p, some of the text gets a little weedy, so we are going to swap that out.”

In talking up the visual upgrades to the game, Hight also moved to assure fans of the series that the meat and potatoes of both games—the gameplay—will remain completely untouched.

“If we open up that can of worms”, he said, “we would probably spend another year trying to right any wrongs we may have had, or areas that were perhaps a little more difficult in retrospect than we had hoped they would be.”

“Instead, we kind of took the stance that we want it to be the pure experience, what people would have played when they played God of War originally.”
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/09/god...e/#more-354446

Upgrading the textures may not be on the cards because the game looks "so good" (boo-urns!) but I do hope they do update them. Gameplay won't be touched thankfully but the text will be fixed to look nice and pretty. Apart from the chance textures will still look a little low res things sound rather nice. But do the textures darn it!

We touched on this in a dreamy way yesterday, but today, let’s look at it a little more seriously: Now that God Of War 1 & 2 are being re-released on Blu-Ray, can we expect other series to follow suit?

After all, there are plenty of popular PS2 games/series that—provided they were upgraded visually and included a few bonus features—people would be willing to spend money on. And not all those games/series are published by Sony. So we asked around, to see if the God of War announcement had lit a fire under any other publishers.

“We are constantly exploring unique ways to expose players to some of our legacy titles such as Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill” a Konami representative told us. “Re-releasing games on Blu-ray presents an exciting opportunity for a publisher, however we have no announcements at this time”.

“I don’t want anyone reading this the wrong way (as I’m not saying anything like this could happen) but I’m seeing some interested for DMC to get this treatment” said Capcom’s Christian Svensson, posting on the company’s Unity forums. “Are there other titles you’d like see go this way? I’m looking for some temperature readings”.

“We’re always looking at new ways of getting content on PS3″ Sony’s Patrick Seybold told us, “but as of now, [God of War] is the only one planned.”

Square Enix, sadly, refused to offer comment.

So, as you can see, no outright confirmation that similar projects are in the pipeline elsewhere (or indeed at Sony for other series), but definitely some encouraging words. You can bet somebody, somewhere is looking at the God of War collection and imagining something similar for Silent Hill, or Metal Gear Solid, or even Onimusha.

Movie fans love the Criterion Collection because it takes old movies and breathes new life into them; it’s about time video game fans were given something similar.
Asking Publishers About Other PS2-To-Blu-ray Releases | Kotaku Australia

Gauging by the responses by Capcom and Konami it may seem that they are waiting to see how well the God of War collection does before they make a decision on re-releasing other series with an HD upgrade. Of course this is only speculation but it seems feasible that if GOW Collection does well other developers would follow suit.

Just thinking of the possibilities, Silent Hill, Devil May Cry, Jak and Daxter, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, Tekken 4 and 5 (could be nice in a special edition of Tekken 6) , all could be great releases with HD makeovers.

Look at the boxart.

Looks like a 5 minute job.

But it gets the job done.

Horrible, no imaginative thought put into it whatsoever. Considering this is the definitive release of these two games some style would be appreciated.

It's a box. Who cares. I wouldn't give a **** if they put the disc in a paper sleeve and hand-wrote "GoW" on it with a sharpie. It's the game that matters.
If I had my way I would get a digital copy.
