It's not the latency I'm concerned about.

It's the fact that I can't just meet up with some friends at a random location, like a Starbucks, break open the laptops and have a game going. Or when we're taking a break from classes and seriously need to unwind, just break out the laptops and away we go.

Restricting multiplayer to BN only is a bold move...

Just great, not that I care about SC2, but if they'll pull the same joke on Diablo 3 I'll be seriously pissed off. Games used to be like any other type of free time activity: Whether it's a movie, a board game or even playing with a damned ball you could do it with others for the same price, as long as they're sitting next to you.

In my opinion this is simply fair use of a product you bought. I'll want to play it with my GF, and I seriously fail to see why we should pay double, it's not like we had to pay extra for games with a splitscreen function either, right? Oh well, let's see if there's workaround. In worst case for me I'll be picking up 2 copies from a cheap webshop, like G2Play.

Mmm... from the way the article "words" it, it means LAN is nada. Internet only. I would love to be wrong, though.

And indeed lag is not a problem with an RTS game, and I mean... hell... I can have my commands come 10 seconds late and still be able to do combats, but the main problem here is that if you're out of wi-fi or internet zone and you want to battle... say... that guy right next to you, you're screwed. This effectively rules out a lot of SEA (South-East Asian) countries (main reason why WoW is almost unheard of in those places). On top of that, internet fees are still insane elsewhere in the world, Schumi is a prime example.

If this is all online, I fail to see how they can organize a game tournament without going through Battle.NET (or actually, it's the same if it is as you put it, LAN has to be arranged through Battle.NET). And wouldn't that also have to be arranged with Blizzard? (meaning they get something back for it) This is not just a "shame". It's an evil plot to take over the world!
