5 is great for customization, and it has a nice, although generic, story. It definitely has some nice conversations. What I like the most still is the music, FF5: Dear Friends is an album everyone should own. Alternatively you could get The Black Mages for "Clash on the big bridge"

Considering FFV is the first 2D FF I've played it has a soft spot in my heart. Sure, the story is pretty much FF1 retold, but the characters themselves is what made the journey so fun. Too bad I forgot most of their names XD

I'm going to wait for the FFV DS to come out in order to replay it.

Butz, Lenna, Faris, Galuf and the Tycoon Kingdom I think it had Exdeath as the main boss, even though those usually aren't too memorable in any FF which involves chasing crystals. FFV has the exact same spot for me as it has for you Densetsu: It was my first emulated SNES game. I have the original boxed version at home, rather cool I'd say.

@ Squall: True, while entertaining it probably doesn't reach those levels. The thing with these open job systems is that you have less options to personalize the characters.

ff5 did very little for me.. more than 12 and x-2. They were plain bad.
But i think its the job system that doesnt appeal to me. I like in IX how they have like a set specialty and it reflects the kind of character they are as well.

In terms of customisable goodness. ff10 did a really good job. the sphere grid gives characters specialties but lets you chnage it if u really want.

anyway.. just replayed MGS4. Love it. as well as ff6/ff7/ff8.
and am replaying ff9 now.

Replaying FFVIII, and slowly finding good aspects of it. Didn't like it too much when I first finished it. Also playing Suikoden, yes the first suikoden. Wonder why I never touched it in its days.

Some games that I play frequently (and recently):
Vagrant Story
Zelda OoT
FFV
FFIX
