Velvet Assassin: This game is a promise
February 9, 2009 - Stealth is no doubt a genre that was popularized by two massively popular leading men: Solid Snake and Sam Fisher. The act of lurking around realistically lighted environments and staying out of sight until the one moment when an undetected strike is possible is surprisingly satisfying when done properly. Velvet Assassin is the latest entry to the genre, but rather than giving a gruff, middle-aged dude the spotlight, this game's main character spends some of her time running around in a nighty. Yep. "The setting is World War II, Nazi Germany. Players take the role of Violette Summer -- a character that's loosely based on the secret agent, Violette Szabo who was captured and tortured during the war -- as she tries to sneak her way behind enemy lines; executing high-ranking Nazi soldiers along the way. The "Velvet-y" aspect of Velvet Assassin comes into play when Violette is in the shadows and is cloaked in a purple film that lets you know the enemy is blind to her presence." |

Lets just hope that having a female lead doesn't make it follow the path of red ninja... I read that when crawling through a pipe or something the camera actually gives you a close up of her panties rather than actually showing where you're going! I seriously hope this game doesn't go there... I don't mind some innuendo as long as its not all it has or doesn't hamper the gameplay. Luckily those pics seem to imply to the good direction...Well, most of them at least.

Nazi's are almost as fun to kill as demons, Nazi's are just training to become demons anyways. Kill 'em, kill 'em all. I'll be curious to hear others opinions of this game. BTW, wasn't she *the real woman* tortured and killed? Yeah, I thought so...

Sounds like a very linear type of game. The idea of the lead being a female assassin sounds great, as long as the developers play to her strengths and can differentiate her as a character and the way she deals with situations when compared with other characters from this genre, mainly Sam Fisher.

Um Eternal Darkness, No More Heroes, and Geist weren't exactly kiddie games, nor Resident Evil 4, just because the Nintendo gamers didn't buy those games doesn't mean 3rd party develops didn't try.
