Ah... yep. My XP SP2 install wouldn't run until it reaches XP SP3.

There is another game that does this: Mercenaries 2.

sorry runawayprisoner I did't mean that I suspect you.
I'll try it!
(I've said that before because I've read on other place that the game requires SSE2 [nothing officially])

Nah, didn't think you doubted me even for a sec. Actually, I didn't even think the reason would be like that. It's super silly...
Then again, it could also be that the thing requires SSE2... I'm not sure. I just know that I received the same error message when on XP SP2.

Best of luck then. If it runs, then I guess the game really does require XP SP3 to run.

Angry

runawayprisoner thanks I've tried however the error doesn't dissapear... now we can "suposse" that the problem can be the set SSE2 instructions.

I have this exact same problem and my CPU is an Athlon 3200+.
Can it really be down to just the chip?
I find it surprising that a game manufacturer would simply cut out all people with older machines :/

I'm playing it right now on XP SP2.

It is definitely your processors.

Minimum requirements say:

Processor: Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz, Pentium D 2.66 Ghz, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ or better
Memory: 1 GB of SDRAM
Graphics: GeForce 68xx or Radeon X1650

why would you find it surprising that they would cut support? as long as idiots keep buying games they'll keep ****ing people over.

Pentium 4 3.2 GHz, Pentium D 2.66 Ghz, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ or better

^no support for AthlonXP.

There must be so many people out there that have slightly older machines. This is the first game I have come across that simply won't run, and it looks like it is down to the CPU. Is it just sloppy programming? It's just odd that newer games still work on the machine like COD4 and Crysis (albeit in some sections it plays like a Powerpoint presentation :>). Maybe it looks like I'll have to save up some cash to buy a new chip and probably mobo, and then I'll probably need different ram and then a new gfx card. Gah. What a pain.

Definitely not sloppy programming, it runs way better than Crysis ever did on my lower-middle range system. Truth be told the Athlon XP architecture is really, really, really really old at this point and they can't keep supporting it if they want the best performance. The last new Athlon XP is over 5 years old now.

Even if it did run, why would you bother with such a slow CPU?

Runs like a dream on my old 7950GT 512 @ 650/1600.

Can't imagine it being even slightly playable on your system though, dreampeppers99.

Have you installed the latest PhsyX download from nVidia?

Aso, try installing the latest VC ++ runtimes and..... Visual Studio 2.0 runtimes as well.

Those usually solves most games troubles.
