Guitar Hero Advice

I'm wanting to get GHIII or RB on 360 at some point. but at the moment i can't afford it. in the meantime i was wondering if it was at all possible to get the guitars separately and if so, which would be the best one that you can use on PC as a controller and on GHII > and RB1 or 2 that's wired?. I'm asking about this to allow the opportunity to be able to use the guitar on it's own then at a later date be able to buy a separate copy of any of the mentioned games.

The compatibility is kinda wacky to understand. Basically, GHIII/Rockband guitars were supposed to be compatible, but they kinda weren't fully (some problems emerged for PS3 and Wii, dunno 'bout 360).

Nyway, I'd recommended buying the guitar of GH:World Tour (the one just getting released) or the guitar for RB2. Pretty sure those should be fully compatible (right now it seems to be the case, afaik) and they're a little better than previous guitars anyway.

Dunno about PC compatibility tho.

I personally found the RB guitars preferable over the guitar hero ones. The GH guitars are way too small.

RB's Stratocaster isn't very good, it tends to skip notes sometimes and people have had other problems with it too, mainly the strum bar which is kinda loose. GHIII's Les Paul is very good and I haven't had a single problems with it. Dunno what you mean Spyhop, both Les Paul and Stratocaster controllers have been shrinked with the same ratio to the originals and both were fine to play for me. If you play a real guitar you'll find both very small tho

As for compatibility and I reckon you're mainly interested in 360, JJXB then know that you can play any of those games with GH controller (both Les Paul and Xplorer work with RB and any GH title) but Stratocaster is compatible only with RB and GH:Aerosmith. GH:World Tour is supposed to be compatible with any controller from RB but that's yet to see. It's kinda fishy 'cause Harmonix had made a patch for GHIII in order to make their Stratocaster to work with it but it was blocked by Activision so I guess any compatibility complains should go to them. And AFAIK 360's Les Paul works with GHIII on PC as well as Xplorer which is bundled with the game. You can't play with RB controllers on PC though.

Can't say about buying the guitar separately, officialy you can't but on ebay for example there's plenty of them.

Hope it helps.

OK. thanks for the info. That will make it easier to decide at least.
Edit - The only Les Paul's from GHIII that i can find are wireless. and i can't use those with my computer.

Les Paul is wireless and should work with PC IIRC, there are no wired ones. If you can't make it work with your PC tho, just get Xplorer which simply connects via USB. Real guitars are wired after all, aren't they?

There used to be wired LPs as demo units in stores such as Gamestop. I have one.
