Bully out for PC, buggy as hell. BUGGY!

Yes, the GTA in the schoolyard is finally out. However, some problems have occurred. On Vista, there are some pretty nasty problems with draw distance, it is HORRIBLE. There is some really weird flickering, which is quite distracting. The sound cuts out sometimes. The game completely hangs after the first conversation with the principal....And thatīs it. No further.

I have to wonder if Rockstar tested the game thoroughly before they released it. I hate to say it, but this is the most shameful release i have seen since the Max Payne BSOD crash. They have pulled the game back, according to rumors. I think a patch would be more practical myself, so i hope the rumor is what it is...A rumor.

Not all is lost though, the game seems to work just fine on XP. Occasional jumpy sound, which doesnīt occur to often. EDIT: The jumpy sound occurs sometimes when you start the game, and other times it works just fine.

Your input. NO VISTA BASHING, the coding is to blame, not the operating system.

EDIT: False fix, removed.,

EDIT: Gah, my head hurts. After some more research, and testing it on X64 and 32 bit version of vista, and 32 bit XP, i can conclude that there is compatibility problems with Vista X64. So it should work just fine on 32 bit systems...YOUīR WELCOME. I know that some of us here use X64, so they are pretty screwed. Not me, i dual boot.

The problem is still there, though. X64 has gained quite a lot of popularity lately, not just emulation wize, but all around. I can understand, since it is extremely fast and stable (At least on my part) so i hope this gets fixed soon.

Now i shall step back, and gaze in horror at how long this thread has become.

what's the DRM on it? that's ultimately what will determine if i buy or "acquire" from another source. especially since i skipped on the PS2, X360 and Wii releases.

There is none. Absolutely no sign of protection. You can just install it and play, without any DVD. Pretty strange. The fact that it is available for download on several pay and play sites might be why, but there should be some kind of protection, right?

Rockstar did one hell of a job making us X64 bit users confused. I have 3 setups, Vista X64 and 32 bit, and XP. I just restarted, went out of my room. I normally start up with X64, but it started automatically with 32 bit, since that is the last one i installed. Confused the hell outta me. Bully worked just fine, rebooted to try the latest revision of Dolphin on X64, went back to Bully, which was messed up. So naturally, i was confused. Incompatibility with X64 was the first thing that crossed my mind, so it didnīt take to long to figure out.

Btw, the game is incredibly cheap.

Well, neither did fallout 3 have any kind of copy protection... It could be that people have gotten really mad after screwups like Starforce and Mass Effect protections which never really did any good protecting it from piracy but were major hinderence to the ones buying it so they've learned not to waste any money on it... <-hopeful thinking, I know!

Expect this to start happening alot more as more PC releases are console ports. Far Cry 2 went badly for alot of people (I'm one of them), and the Silent Hill Homecoming PC release has been equally as bad as this one. Certain video cards (X1000 series) don't work, when the minimum requirements said nothing but "DirectX 9.0c, such as Radeon HD cards". It has insane requirements for what something of it's caliber should need (much less). An E6400 is a minimum. Single core CPUs stutter terribly, and even Pentium D's barely get by (the audio stutters on them). Check these requirements.

Silent Hill Homecoming on Steam

That's very misleading. It specifically says "Dual core CPU" with the "such as" tacked on as an example like it'd be a recommendation, but no, it's the requirement. If you have a Pentium D, it's not fast enough. All of these requirements, and the textures look worse than Silent Hill 3 (it just has a bit of bloom) and it has a 30FPS cap. That much power needed for so little. What a bad port. If you're not using a 16:10 ratio, the map gets cut or something. The sound channels are supposedly messed up unless you have 5.1 sound. There's plenty of places where the game locks up for alot of people. AA doesn't work, but it's a console port. All of this, after the release date was pushed back twice, has made me cancel getting the game. From what I've heard from alot of Silent Hill fans, the story is shallow anyway. I'm so glad I opted for Dead Space. Best $50 I spent on a game in the past year.

There is a temporary fix to the draw distance problem, and that is to change the amount of maximum memory to 2000. Which means it beats the pcsx2 version to the dust.

What really bugs me about the game, is the occasional slowdowns (For example during the chemistry sessions.) And the fact that it looks so washed out. The pics i have seen for the 360 version looks a LOT better. It seems to me that there is WAY too much gamma in the game.

A very well-known french website published their test of it. They said that they had to give up testing the game because it was simply unplayable. In some cases, it was simply impossible to pass the second loading screen (in addition to all the stuff already mentioned in the opening post on other testing machines).

Once again, said website is 6-7 years old and is one of the country's most visited ones (very large audience and community). It just gives an idea how a waste of money the game can be at this point.

It IS pretty disappointing that it works so bad with Vista X64, i canīt deny that. It does work OK enough with Vista 32, and i have enjoyed it.

It seems that Rockstar didnīt spend a good enough amount of time with porting and testing it.

So in other words, it's like GH3 for PC/Mac, hardly optimized and directly ported from the 360?
