Far Cry 2, anyone?

So who else bought one of the most hyped titles of the year on its release date? I've already logged over 20 hours since wednesday. Some things about the game are different than I imagined, but I think it lived up to the hype. And kudos to ubisoft for making this playable on a console (though i got it on PC), because this game is good looking.

Much better than Crysis and STALKER but the graphics while impressive aren't that great.

I recommend you this game.

Hmmm maybe I should check it out. Any unique features about the game? Like something that usually isn't done in fps?

Mmm... you can flame the hell out of a camp and walk right through like nothing happened? The environment is quite breakable, too. Some stuffs aren't too breakable, but eh... at least more breakable than Crysis imo, which is good.

Graphics aren't cool, but imo, you aren't going to stand in one place and stare at the screen for hours so that shouldn't matter.

P.S.: Also imo... more freedom than Crysis.

Edit: But anyway, just got the game, installed it, and I immediately understood what MrPink meant. None of the above is true to me... at all. It's now somewhat enjoyable only.

And IMO, Crysis might just be better than this game... (that's to say Crysis already sucks badly...) but I'll see... once I've progressed further.

And by the way... FOV by default is terrible...

I will be getting this game, but not right away. In a month or two when all the christmas specials are going on. To tide me over in that time I will be getting Gears 2.

The game does look pretty kick ass and some of the reviews that I have looked at indicate that this is a very good game, not only visually but gameplay wise. I am looking forward to what kinds of shenanigans can be performed.

Okay... lesson 1: diamond case in between ammo cases.

NEVER touch it.. or slash it.

Reason: the bullets in the ammo cases will go off and shoot out in all directions.

Kinda funny imo.

Yeah some of the diamond cases are tricky...though I've yet to encounter that . For me, it's no contest between this and Crysis, there is just so much more to do in this game and it runs much better. I also like that weapons jam/break, vehicles have to be repaired (however simple a task that may be)...just the amount of things to do and keep you entertained are very abundant. In terms of $/hour of gameplay, this is a much better value than Crysis.

And I see where you are coming from in terms of graphics. But put the best Far Cry 2 screen and the best Crysis screen you can think of side by side, and I don't think there would be a noticeable difference...besides that your fps in Far Cry 2 will be double whatever they are in Crysis.

edit: I can keep my 8800gtx for a bit longer, since it can run FC2 nearly full max @1680x1050 with 2x AA (one option on very high instead of ultra high). I was prepared to upgrade my video for this game if it wouldn't run on nearly max settings, thankfully it does.

Mm... the games are just too different, and different people have different tastes, so I really can't comment on graphics.

But I've noticed that interactions with trees and stuffs aren't too cool... or as cool as Crysis, though I admit some trees look better...

Here are some screens. Max graphics settings @ 1680 x 1050, no vsync or AA. But I like my vsync and AA so i turn Shaders to very high instead of ultra high, in exchange for 2x AA and vsync.

180.43 was recently released, right after 42 to fix some issues on FarCry2
Posted some early shots in the screenshots section too.

The game is good so far, the gun sounds is quite good imo hehe. Some missions can be quite repetitive sometimes, but its to be expected for a sandbox style game, but STALKER seems more superior IMO hehe. Also, the game seems to suffer some "consolitis" the mouse seems to lag even on higher framerates, mebbe due to teh fact that its also made for consoles (even the menus) -_-

Well expect more multi platform games like this to make some kind of compromise to the consoles. I haven't experienced any noticeable mouse lag. Sometimes mouse smoothing can cause that, is it enabled for you?

Also, yeah the 180.42 drivers didn't work for me. Game would start in a window with black screen but wouldn't crash :/ Switching back to old drivers fixed it. I'll have to try those 180.43 drivers some time...and I guess the .42 drivers really were crap because they aren't even available for download off the nvidia site anymore

The game has problems when Windowed. If it starts in a window I'd just recommended pressing alt+enter to get it back to fullscreen. (switching to window after getting in-game isn't so bad, trying to launch it windowed tho seems to be bad)

I got the game (pre-ordered it through Steam and saved $5), but it keeps freezing or crashing to the desktop after every ten minutes or so, so I haven't bothered touching it much. It does, strangely, run fine windowed, but it looks worse and runs half the speed that way, so I won't use that as a solution. Personally, I'm disappointed in it anyway. It's a good game, but nowhere near what it was supposed to be/advertised to be/expected to be. It has nothing to do with Far Cry, and the previous was much better. For a supposedly open ended game, you're limited by alot of mountains. The missions are too repetitive, and there's too much driving and not enough action. What was their solution to lack of action? Making the enemies at the guard posts respawn insanely quickly, which is just another problem in itself. Everyone respawns way too fast, and everyone outside a ceasefire zone seems to shoot you, which is odd considering your journal says you're a nobody with no reputation. The graphics are pretty good, but nowhere near this, and it runs great though. The save points were even leftover from the console version (they're unneeded as you can quicksave anywhere on the PC). It's a shame. You could tell this had so much potential, but it seems by making it a console game first, it butchered it. It's not a bad game, but it did let me down big time, especially with it freezing/crashing on top of things, and others have been reporting it too. No common variable has been found yet.

I dunno about the PC version, but Ubisoft really screwed up with widescreen picture on 360. It's just 4:3 pic trimmed to 16:9, similar to Bioshock. Why on Earth would they do that?
