Cheating in Crysis Warhead

I am trying to get the cheats console to come up, but the tilde "`" key isn't working for some reason.

I've already added -DEVMODE to my shortcut and launched Crysis Warhead via the shortcut + command.

The dev mode is working as I can see the info displayed, but not the tilde key to bring up the cheats console.

I want to test out the Tacgun.

Huh... try a new keyboard? Or add the commandline directly into the difficulty configuration file. Should work as soon as you start a new game with that difficulty level.

Note that I haven't tried the difficulty configuration file method.

This game is just... not interesting to cheat on.

Well It's a laptop, so another keyboard is not really an option. I think I figured it out after a lengthy google search, but am unsure if it'll work...

USB keyboard... bluetooth keyboard... or if you are inclined like me, run the game in Windows mode and use the on-screen keyboard. whichever, it should work.

And that's what I meant by "different keyboard."

Yeah, I just tried with my USB keyboard which has the same results. I added con_restricted = 0 to my configuration files (easy/normal) which someone mentioned on another forum for the cheats console.

However it still doesn't work and I can't access the cheats console using the tilde key.

Well, I know that you add "-console" on the end of valve games to bring up the console, try that.

That doesn't work for Crysis/Warhead, you have to use -DEVMODE as the shortcut command. However the "`" (Tilde) key doesn't bring up the console to enter cheats like it's supposed to.

"con_restricted = 0" should be put in a file called "system.cfg" at the root of your Crysis Warhead folder instead of in there. Anything in that file gets executed first and foremost, and you need that command executed before you can do anything else.

There was a command that would disable the console regardless... but I don't remember which one.

Yeah tried that as well as creating an autoexec.cfg with con_restricted = 0 and placing it in the config directory, I tried with the system.cfg by placing it in the root of my Crysis Warhead folder.

However no matter what I try, I can't seem to bring up the console to enter cheats.

I heard that if your PC has an IR receiver it can prevent you from being able to access the console in Crysis/Warhead.

My laptop has an IR receiver for a small remote for DVD playback, volume control and other things, however I can't seem to just simply disable it in the device manager, only gives the option of uninstalling the device.

My laptop is using Vista Home Premium if it means anything.....

Does anyone have an idea as to why I can not access the cheats console on my laptop with the information I provided above?

I am able to access it on my desktop PC, but not my laptop even if I hook up an external usb keyboard.

I've had some problems too when trying to cheat with Crysis (NOT Warhead), I enter con_restricted = 0 and then use the giveitem cheat, but it doesn't work!

Well I can not even access the console using my laptop even after adding -devmode to the shortcut. I like to play on my laptop as it has a much better graphics chipset/card than my desktop which runs Crysis/Warhead like a slideshow on the lowest settings and resolution.

On my desktop PC I can though without a problem. Just a hint though don't add the con_restricted = 0 as it impairs being able to use the i_giveitem codes and possibly other codes.

Okay... found it. Try this is in your system.cfg:

bind F9 consoleShow
bind F10 consoleHide

Now F9 will open the console, and F10 will close it.

P.S.: Maybe try them out in a autoexec.cfg file if they don't work in system.cfg

Note that this is really related to that IR Receiver, and unless you disable it in BIOS or something, the tilde key won't work at all... but key binding like this should work.

What you mentioned doesn't work and my bios doesn't have an option to disable the IR receiver.

Is there another way to disable the IR receiver?

Yeah... uninstall the drivers every time you go into Windows and want to play Crysis.
