PS2 Slim version

Why did sony ever debut this console?

cons: it overheats, freezes up, and breaks way to easily.

I give 1 to every PS that sony made caus i never had any problems
with The PS and PSone aswell with PS 2 and PS 2 slim and now im getting a PSP and i doubt there will be any problems

In my case it always worked this way had PS the PSone was realsead sold the PS bought the PSone only my first PS2 broke but that was cause of me splling some coke on it that fried it
Thats why i now have a PS2 Slim which so far never overheatted or froze up on me.

The next cosnole wich i buy will be the Wii since i have a GC and some unfinished games and a PS 3

CYA for NOW

PS1 was my first console and the second one was the PS2slim version. The joy of playing with a gamepad on a TV is not comparable to anything.

I think I've had my slim for 3 years, and nothing has happened to it. You probably got a bad one, or you don't take care of it.

I have Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas
and whenever i start getting some serious explosions or im going fast through the highways the console will beging to throttle back on the cpu, then if it gets worse enough every thing stats going much slower untill eventually, it freezes up,or constantly gives "Disc read errors".

Oh, by the way i open it up every month and blast compressed air into it.
i also keep a 6inch clearance on all sides, and it is away from heat sources.

The slim version is prone to disc read problems as the lens is exposed.
use a good lens cleaner cd to clean your lens and it should work fine.

oh and this also occurs with other games as well
Fanal fantasy 7, Twisted metal 2-3and4 i returned my console two times to walmart for a replacement then it worked for 3 months and then gave me problems.

Does anyone have problems similar to this
i've taken notice that the slim version has less memory ,less Video memory, and if i am right less cpu computing power than the larger PS2

what was the reason Sony wanted to shrink the PS2 in the first place

Die shrinks aside, the memory capacities and cpu power have not changed. If anything, for the games i own (Both ps2, and psx) the slimline is the better of the 2 consoles.

Ventilation isn't an issue unless you have it cooped up in some draw or something. It will only freeze for backed ups that were recorded at the wrong speed or on a cheap disc. The larger ps2 is more likely to break after a drop then the small one.
My large broke after a 2 feet drop back in 2004. I have slim and its been through hell, modded, and works perfectly.

I've had 6 ps2's and not one has broken

the initial model did require lens cleaning every few months though

I have a PS2 original and a slim, and the slim works just fine. I think the overheating rumors and stuff are bogus, and I mean have you actually seen what it looks like on the inside?

Its cooling system isn't that bad. I haven't had any problems at all with my slim.

A PS2 can't throttle CPU speed. The best it can do is shut down on overheat.

Sony can be accused of a lot of things, but producing poor quality products isn't one of them.

Hey, they're new with hardware, so they have an excuse with that part at least. Their OSes, on the other hand...

err.... failing to point out that Microsoft has been making computer hardware for years, in the form of mice, keyboards, gamepads, joysticks, .....

I sure hope they fired the ****tard that failed to bring up the concept of overheating during the initial design phase...
