Who plays Age of Empires 2?

I still find myself enjoying this game more than anything else like it. Tried Age of Empires 3 but it just didnt have that same tactical feel Age of Empires 2 had. Theres nothing better than a good old war with your friends in the multiplayer mode.

One of the best games to grace the PC Does anyone else have the same thoughts as mine?

Age of Empires 2 (especially with The Conquerers) is the best damned RTS out there.

Yes.

Better than Starcraft.

That's a blasphemy .

But yes, i probably liked it in equal terms with starcraft back then. Age of Empires 3 though.... it dropped the strategic element in favor of a quick match, making it closer to command and conquer games imo.

All the age of empires are good games, there really strategic and that's what I like about them and I haven't tried AO3 though so I can't really compare it

I'm sticked with Age of Empires (I). Still haven't played II and III.

I enjoy to play AOE, but I still don't know how to make backups of saved games. Backing up game*.msi-files doesn't do the thing, so every time I format my HDD, I'm forced to use "home run"-cheat trick, which is boring.

BTW: I'd like to play AOEII and III, too.

Yah I also reinstally AoE2-AoK every once in a while. Usually after watching something like First Knight or BBC's Ivanhoe. It's an awesome game. AI drives me nuts though and so does the population limit (damnit I want to fill the map with my men, not be restricted to having 3 battalions).

I suggest you give Rise of Nations (the original one) a try aswell though. It's brilliant and great fun plus the population limts are a lot more reasonable.

Yeah RoN is a great game. What i didnt like about it was the number of resources you needed. It takes toooooo loooong to build an army! So i just cheat in the game to start with lots and lots of resources and go straight to the battle part

And the soundtrack is one of the most amazing, beautiful OST i have ever listen to in a game

To me...despite it's name. It basically is Age of Empires 3.

It's a spiritual successor to AoE 1 and 2 hell of a lot more than Empire Earth and AoE3 are.
Not sure about it's expansions though...they don't look so hot to me, but the original game is awesome.

If you like AOE1 you'll like AOE2. its the same formula, just on a wider scale.

AOE3 is a ****ing copout though.

No. It's an Expansion for Age of Empires 3 therefore it's bad.

the expansions are really worth playing.

Unlike other games and their expansions, AOE expansions always add something more than 2 units, a map and a faction to play as. They add ALOT of stuff, including replay value. I would even go as far as saying "once you go Conquerors, you never wanna go back to AOK".

I get bored of it. Put it down. And a few months later I play it again.

And I actually don't play conquerers. I play Age of Kings and Rise of Rome.

AoE3 is like Ensemble tried to copy Anno...and failed miserably.
