The ONLY Good Thing about FF12

Ive finally finished FFX2. I will not comment further, as it is not worth my time.

I'm playing FF12 now. ............hmmmm.... Im still waiting for the story to start.
Seriously, the premise is....ugh.

FFX2 took me 42 hours (i beat Anrga mainyu in 4 minutes with Cat Nip + Trigger Happy)

So I guess FF12 is going to take me 90 hours (game hours; I level up with the limiter set to 300 FPS; so human hours around 50)

Well here's the only good thing about FF12

Hot Cosplay

Im playing FF12 too and am currently at the part where Vann has run around shouting "Basch lives" to get attention. But in fact, I liked FFX-2 better than FFXII so far. FFXII doesnt have that feel of a Final Fantasy for me yet...

LoL, lots of chicks and balthier's wannabes.

But to be honest, I think FFXII is a good game. From this new Final Fantasy Emo Ages that goes from FFVIII and ahead, I think FFXII is the best. At least they changed lots of things. I like the Vagrant Story's atmosphere that was implemented in the game too.

You know Phil, I played through FF12 and each hour I was waiting for the story to start and pick up. Unfortunately it never happens, I would say FFX2 has more story than FF12. Probably not something you wanted to hear.

You're being a little extremist. It's better than that blitzball bull**** and the dream city zanarkand.. So original... FFX story almost made me vomit.. The only thing cool about FFX is the Dark Aeon's challenge, specifically Dark Yojimbo. It's the only real challenge the game has.

People are just pissed because FFXII didn't have the usual final fantasy brand story of "zomg one small group of heroes saves the whole world from a deadly evil!".

XII had a much more mature story. I liked it a lot.

Oh, what's that pink thing flashing there ...Oh right, we're not inthe bin... I apologize!

I have mixed feelings of FFXII, I found the story nice but it left te feeling like they would've shot the script writer after they get to Giruvegan(not sure if I wrote it correctly) as after that the story seemed to die and it became simple go there, go here, go that way. Can't say I liked the ending either...

Good god, I couldn't agree more. No real story to speak of; FF12 is blasphemous garbage IMO. A bunch of stupid chase this chase that "missions" does not make a good game. Took it back to Gamestop 2 hours after buying it, and being the FF fan that I am, I was in complete disgust and disbelief for days, weeks after that.

12's story was fantastic. A feudal story of war and power. It just didn't impress the younger audiences who were looking for "epic" and didn't get it. I hope they do more stories like that. The epic stories are good too, but 12 was refreshing. Was kinda "Game of Thrones" ish

ff xii story is more mature because it was originally vagrant story 2 (thats why it never came out), but half way through the development they decided to change it to a final fantasy game cos it will sell more, didnt you find it peculiar that it has the same art style and set in invalice, what is that its just one dimensional dungeons (i mean as in repetitive and that you do nothing more than fight enemies and collect items and with barely any puzzles to solve, i mean it really felt like it has the same game play as final fantasy 1) and with large towns and a cut scenes thrown in. essentially what i am saying, aside the graphics, the game plays more like the ones in the nes days

So you're basically saying they ignored story like when there were no stories back to FF1 days?

Its not even about having a *mature story* this is just a defense mechanism to defend a less than mediocre FF game. The problem with FF12 is it is a game where nothing happens and there is little to no character development. Here is a example at the beginning of the game we find out Vaan wants to be a sky pirate, after that it completely disappears. There is no development for Vaan for the rest of the game basically. He is just there, tagging along. Same with Penelo, except worse.

If they made Ash the leading character then maybe the story could of been much better because they would of been able to focus on more things and flesh them out better. Please tell me how does FF12 a game with more than less than half the characters of FF6 has much less character development?

Again, its not even about saving the world with a band of heroes. Do you seriously believe that I'm so shallow to even enjoy that type of cliche story? Its about having a intriguing story with characters that develop and FF12 has none of that.

Likewise; I stopped playing most RPGs a very long time ago (2001, FFX being the last I finished, which I have to say blew my mind and continues to, to this day) due to the "save the world" cliche. Just couldn't take listening to the same thing with different characters over, and over, and over again.

So... Spyhop, your analysis is a bit off. Yeah, those who can't stand it just "didn't get it" because we're just "too young". Yeah, that's it. You're just so much more aware than us! OF COURSE!

I'm glad I found this thread. I've literally been unable to find anyone else who does NOT like FFXII! Glad I'm not insane.

I didn't really like FFXII's gameplay. It was basically an MMORPG without the MMO part... That made the game feel weird for me the whole time I was playing. Also, why did there have to be SO MUCH GRINDING? After every dungeon I had to spend an hour or two grinding to level up and get money to buy new stuff just to avoid having the monsters in the next area completely annihilate me. I finished the game at level 75, but since the final boss is perhaps the cheapest final boss in any game ever, I actually felt under-leveled. From top to bottom, I found the whole game boring, so I'll never understand why so many people like it.

I can't say I was all that impressed with 12 either. Though it did have some redeeming qualities here and there, detail-ish type stuff imo. The addition of the wyrmhero sword and some other 'ultimate' weapons was cool. I'd agree story was kind of weak, boss/ending was pretty anti climactic. Probably the thing I've disliked most about recent Final Fantasy games is the choice of lead characters. Such as in 12, the story is told a lot through the point of view of Vaan, and you spend your time running around, as Vaan. Personally I would have preferred things to have centered more around Ashe, thought that would have made more sense.

Other than the above, wasn't really fond of the battle system/gamits, left me watching the game more than I felt I was actually playing it. Not to mention the fact that I've never really liked the choice of a job/class system where anyone can be/use anything, that's personal preference though.

All in all though I still liked it better than a couple other final fantasy titles.

Anyway, these days I think the titles usually in stores or online new for 15-19 bucks, not bad at all for that price.

edit: also wanted to mention my last save is somewhere around the 125 hour mark, missing 2-3 of the summons (whatever ff12 calls them).
