New Valve official (mod) Games

5 new games appeared in steam for source owners,
insurgency is a damn good game

Quote:
Valve who own the game client Steam have announced 5 Mods that will be freely hosted directly from the steam client. This is great news for the mod community as top mods will get much higher coverage to show off their work and get to use all the great features of steam like auto updating. It will also include tracking (assuming for awards) and better integration in to Steam. I personally hope to see other great mods showcased in this way.

The first 5 mods being supported are:
Zombie Panic:Source - A zombie survival game
Synergy - Multiplayer modification with multiple gameplay modes
D.I.P.R.I.P - Vehicle combat in various post-war environments
Age of Chivalry - Medieval first person melle
Insurgency - Modern combat FPS

Official Steam Announcement

As a part of our continuing efforts to support the MOD community, we will begin hosting selected MODs directly on Steam starting next week. The first five MODs to ship on steam will be Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy, and Zombie Panic. As always, owners of any Source game will be able to download and play all of these MODs for free.

Once installed, these MODs will appear in your “My Games” list and will receive automatic updates just like other games on Steam. Also, these MODs now take advantage of Steamworks, which provides stat tracking and tighter integration with the Steam community.

We’re excited to see MOD developers get wider recognition for the hard work they have done, and we hope to support more MOD teams in the future. Watch for the official release next week!

I'm still downloading Zombie Panic, in the meantime me and bobrocks have been having infinite amounts of fun and lulz with Synergy. We are currently on HL2 at Ravenholm. Good stuff.

I tried synergy but something must have went wrong.
It was just me and a few people trapped in a room?

Insurgency is the only other game I've tried, think of a larger map version of DOD: Source
it's fun

Play Synergy with people that you know and play the story mode. Just play with us. Skype required though.

John Aiton will never talk with us on Skype, for that would reveal her true identity.

They've all been around a while, but now they're fully integrated into, and hosted on, Steam.

Are any of them good? Like, Counter-Strike back in HL1 good.

I'd say Synergy and Zombie Panic! Source are both pretty well-done mods, aside from Synergy's spawning problems.

Synergy is essentially Half-Life 2 and its following episodes with a co-op element implemented into it, which is surprisingly fun when you play with friends. I really had no intention to play HL2 again anytime soon, but for some reason, I immediately jumped at the chance to play once I heard about the Synergy co-op mod. HL2 is so much fun when you have some friends to play/strategize with to achieve a common goal.

Zombie Panic is a HL2: Source zombie outbreak multiplayer mod that allows you to play as one of the survivors or as one of the zombies against the opposing class.

To borrow from Exodus in question:
Almost all of the source related mods source itself and HL2 was a complete let down for me, seemed like a poppy happy go lucky version of the original.
Anything actually skill-intensive in these?
Or is it more *spam trigger finger and win* as before?

I've been busy playing a whole range of stuff and bouncing back to PCSX2/zsnes on occasion, so I'd want to be sold this ;P

So they are for 10 year olds with the hand-eye coordination of a turnip then?
Thanks all I needed to know.
