pspvba isn't good. Uo gPSP is amazing though.
the fat psp battery can hold anywhere between 4-10 hours depending on how you use it.

If you like RPG/Adventure games, you'll love the following:

Monster Hunter Freedom 1 & 2 (Hundreds of hours of gameplay from each)
Daxter
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters
Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (one of my favorites and very overlooked)
Brave Story
Secret Agent Clank
Death Jr. I and II
The Legend of Heroes series (though not everyone will like it, I love it though).

There are tons of other great PSP games out, but they are in different genres. I personally own about 78 games right now (almost owned around 120, but I ended up selling about 35 games on ebay and made close to $600). If you need anymore recommendations in other genres, I have plenty

For shooters:
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.
Coded Arms
Coded Arms Contagious
Medal of Honor Heroes (the first one. The second one plain out sucked)

For racing:
Need For Speed Most Wanted
Need For Speed Carbon
Need For Speed ProStreet
MACH
WipeOut Pure
WipeOut Pulse
BurnOut Takedown
BurnOut Dominator

For rhythm:
Audition Portable
DJ Max Portable
DJ Max Portable 2

For Strategy:
Metal Gear Acid
Metal Gear Acid 2
Total Commander

For RPG/SRPG:
Tales of the World: Radiant Myth
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War
Joan de Arc
Wild Arms XF
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth
Tales of Eternia
Yggdra Union

...Actually, I shouldn't even bother listing. There are way too many.

That still leaves the RPG list useful.
I'd think that you should just go out and buy what you think looks cool (or cute). It doesn't really matter much since I was just about to list all RPG games the PSP has. PSP rarely has any bad RPG games... well, at least not bad for a handheld system.

P.S.: Plus if you are going to emulate GBA, I'd recommend the official gpSP, since the uO versions:
1) Break open-source license agreements. Or at least most early versions do.
2) Break some important games at some point. Namely Zelda, and worse yet, Golden Sun.

So what? Does the superfluous information offend you? Others may find it useful.

You need your PSP hacked to play PSX games that you own. Otherwise, you have to purchase them from Sony.

Yeap. No way around it. Sometimes Sony practices very questionable business, but then again, be glad they even allowed PSP to play PSX games at all.

I just bought a new PSP, I got fix or six games which are quite good:

God of War: Chains of Olympus
Mortal Kombat Unchained
Twisted Metal Head On
Smackdown Vs Raw 2008
Ratchet and Clank Size Matters
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops

I also have Silent Hill Origins and a 2GB memory stick duo on it's way in the mail.

I had a blast with Dungeon Siege Throne Of Agony. I guess it would come under action adventure?
