How do you deal with EBAY sellers who sell Bootlegs of games?

I just received my Illbleed, it's a bootleg...

I'm incredibly mad. I put a dispute on Paypal and demanded the original or my money back on EBay.

Since it's under $20, I doubt EBay will care...

Not gonna happened. At least it did not with me. I bought Onimusha for the PC for 12$. I waited 3 weeks for the game and never arrived. I emailed the seller and he told me he "TRIED" to contact me for a long time and i thought it was bull**** because i didn't had any message or emails from him. He told me there was something wrong with my address and couldn't send me the game. I emailed him 5 times with the new address and NEVER got a reply from him. I'm still waiting for my game. That happened 1 year ago.

That was the first and last time i bought something from ebay.

Its looking grim then.....I don't think I've bought anything from sellers.
I usually go to Amazon for things like that, much more reliable.
The only prob I ever had was when Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows came out.
While I was ordering it went out of stock. Blasphemy >_</

ask the seller for a refund; if he doesn't, give bad feedback. That's pretty much all you can do, I guess....

Yeah, they want me to ship him back the game and then refund me the price of the game minus shipping. If I do that, I'll have spent another $3-$4 to recover $2.25...

He also lied about shipping, it was supposed to be priority but it wasn't.

I guess I'm screwed, but at least I have a game and can play it...

BTW, he is AOY2006 on EBAY spread the word so you and your friends aren't scammed.

probably more hassle than it's worth the time/effort.

hm, I once sold a bunch of things on ebay, and adding up all the time needed for communication with (potential) customers, I ended up deciding that it's not worth it.

one case where I helped a customer even ended up in receiving bad feedback - a customer ordered something both from me and someone else, and won both auctions. That person then requested me if the product (a game) could be exchanged for another one. I didn't have to, but I had some additional games I could offer instead (but I demanded it to be for the same price as the winning auction). The person first agreed, then later left bad feedback because the price was "too high".
Couldn't do much other then also leaving bad feedback. Not that it would've been likely, but if I ever would've had ebay to taken action, I should've never even agreed to offer a replacement game. A typical case where you get burned for being helpful. I should've just demanded from that person to pay for the originally won game and send that. Anyway, that also cost a lot of time....

I don't know about that - I got my money back once. It takes a while, but it can prove effective.

Every game I buy on Ebay I only buy from reputed sellers and post multiple shots of the game disc and case.

And yeah, the only way is disputing the buy with Paypal and sending Ebay an email saying the guys selling bootlegged copies. Hate sellers like that

Definitely file a complaint. He would likely have his account removed. I have seen accounts deleted just for listing bootleg copies of games.

It may sound over the top, but is there a way to report him to the publisher or to some kind of authority to inform them that he is selling pirated material. Like the numbers you get when playing a dvd and the warning screen comes up about not to pirate this movie (or game) and to report any illegal activities to the number provided?

Yeah. I'd at least give it a shot - what's the worse that can happen? Except that he knows where you live...

I've never bought things off ebay mainly because of what other views have been, and they don't trust it, so ive never bothered buying from that site

Ebay is fine. I've only had one bad experience (which resolved itself in my favour). Just ask the seller some questions before you buy something if there aren't enough details.

yeah the ebay dispute console is the biggest load of bull**** ever.

I got a ds on ebay and it is fake (or at least looks it), and plays games fine but the top screen is faulty (terrible quality then turns off after a few mins) and looks like a refurb/fake unit.

Ebay said they would refund me bar shipping fee to send it back.

ship ds back to china where i am from (using registered post) is about 30 euro.

so pay 30 to get 100 back.... no thanks

just gotta be really careful who you buy from

I agree. I never had any problems on ebay.

To be sure to make (most of the time) a good deal:

-Always watch seller appreciations. I usually avoid thoses under 90%.
-Read very carefully the description. Avoid deals which are not in your language or be sure to understand it.
-Prefer buying from ebay shops.
-Always ask questions if you are not sure about something and of course before the purchase (shipping fee, others things like that). If the answer seems suspect or you don't receive answers, immediatly drop the deal.
-Always compare prices on other shops before buying. you'll rarely be able to save more than 30% on the real price. if you think the price is too low, it's surely a fake or a damaged object.

Of course, you can do all this and make a bad deal. But you'll lower the chances falling in this kind of situation.

From used sellers, or from the Amazon store? I've had worse results from Amazon as people like to lie about how "Like New" something is...

I make it a point to only order from North America.

Ebay Primer: How to be Successful on Ebay Deals.

1.Feedback is your friend. Not So much the content of the feedback, but the feedback number. Say you buying a cellphone (or anything small and electronic). Buy from sellers that ONLY have over 5,000 feedback with a positive percentage of 98.9% (give or take.) The higher the number of feedback, the lower the positive quota can be (i.e ~280,000 feedback=89.9%)

2. Communication is your friend. Seriously, do not impulse buy. Visit the sellers store or web page. Constantly send them questions about the item. Who knows you might even get a deal.

True Example: I ordered a Final Fantasy X-2 Strategy guide from the a female seller . (She was selling hand made art and hairbows). The seller listed priority mail as the shipping. I waited 3 weeks. Sensing something was wrong, i contacted the seller. The seller said she was sorry and that she couldn't send the guide by priority mail and that she would have to send it by regular post. Well we started talking and eventually got around to debating on which is the best FF. She gave me her myspace page address, and whoa.....it was a nice surprise (HOT KOREAN CHICK. I HAVE PICS- ill make a thread =BIN MEMBERS ONLY can view )

3.Authenticity. Make sure you know what your getting. Don't trust sellers who throw up "stock photo"'s of their merchandise. Unless they have a lot of feedback.

Example. Most Ebay CPU vendors list model and pack date info.
Like Core 2 Extreme QX6850
3 Ghz 1333 FSB GO SLAFN 05/23/07.

Don't buy a XQ6850 Extreme FTW.

4.Dispute Console does work.

I bought a 24" LCD monitor from a seller with only 90 feedback. (He lived only 20 minutes away from my house and I wanteds it fast)
Well I waited for 3 weeks. Nothing. I opened a dispute. I had used a money order too, so no easy dispute. Well he sent me an email saying he was sorry and would send it out the next day.

When it arrived, it arrived with a smashed-not merely cracked-screen.
By this time I was fuming, so i resumed the dispute.
He ended up sending me my money after 1.5 months.
